We loved Mien's. The weather was rainy so we ate inside, had the most warm welcome, a fabulous fireplace, FANTASTIC fish, salad, chips, MALVA PUDDING TO DIE FOR, and really, the best hospitality in Arniston. We left feeling like friends. Mien's partner, Fredy, took us...to the Arniston Waenhuiskrans Cave the next morning, as an informal guide, and oh my goodness, incredible. Eat here. Mien's Tea Garden is in the old village and is an incredibly authentic, meaningful experience, as well as delicious. So glad we did this.More

Mien is a delightful host, she makes you feel welcome and the calamari and chips were excellent. If you are staying in Arniston you must experience and support the local residents so do visit Mien's Tea Garden. Phone number is 071 018 3063 and there...is a signpost on the road leading into Arniston opposite a bus shelter. Turn onto this side road and follow the road until you come to a sign to turn right to Mien'sMore

My OH and I arranged to go to Mien's Tea Gardens with 2 more guests from our party of 30 staying at The Arniston Spa Hotel. Mien met us at the hotel to walk us through the village to her Tea Garden and talked about...the history of the area. A very quaint little place and typical of the cottages in the area. I have, however, a little gripe regarding the scones. As a mean scone maker myself, and living in Derbyshire, where all the cafes serve their own version of a cream tea, I had a little shudder, when I heard the ping of a microwave. No!! never microwave a scone - it completely ruins it for my OH and I. One assumes that when scones are microwaved they aren't fresh. So, Mien, you make lovely scones, but serve them fresh out of the oven! Just saying!!More

Mien the host is lovely. She met our party of 14 outside our hotel & guided us through the village to her restaurant which doubles as her home. On the way she gave us a real insight into her village & it's history. That alone...was worth the walk ! As it was a nice day we all sat outside & got a bit sunburnt. When the lunch arrived it was a bit disappointing (probably because I expected more following our history lesson). If you do go to Mien's probably best for lunch rather than dinner I suspect.More

Mien collected us from the Spa Hotel and walked us through the village, highlighting the main buildings and sites ( church, harbour etc). She then took us to her home and we enjoyed tea and scones in her garden. She topped-up the teapots and took...us back to the hotel. Some of our party went there for a light lunch and were very complimentary.More

Mien offered us a guided tour of the Kassiesbaai ending with a cream tea at her very pleasant little Tea Garden. In Arniston there doesn't seem to be a great deal to do, other than admire the scenery, so a guided walking tour of the...old fishing village was very welcome, however even had the place been a hive of activity Mien's Tea Garden would still hold it's own. If we had stayed in Arniston longer I would have definitely returned to try her lunch menu which looked interesting.More
