I thoroughly enjoyed time spent at Smidswinkel restaurant. The coffee and wine were both great. The collection of books is an absolute treasure trove. The décor is amazing. The cook Johanna was so interesting to talk to - she had been there for several years and her knowledge of where to find flowers in the area was very good. The... More

We went to the Smidswinkel Restaurant in December, which is the off-season in this town... not flower season... so the whole town was very quiet. We ended up bbeing the only people in the restaurant. It is very quaint and cosy with flags hanging from tge ceiling and pictures on the walls. The only problem I had with the place... More

Really not good value for money. Overcooked leg of lamb and chicken pie, frozen stir fry veggies, rice and potatoes, covered in instant gravy. Cake, cheese cake or koeksisters for desert. We could have done better cooking ourselves.

The setting is good but it is completely spoilt by the useless waitress who we had to call about five times just to take our drinks order then a repeat performance for the food order. We also booked into the "caravan park" belonging to the owner. Don't bother! It is almost in the low cost housing and the locals about... More

The setting is good and comfortable. The food seemed heated from frozen rather than fresh, meaning that vegetables were melt in your mouth - dreadful. Expensive for one course. Service dreadfully slow.

Considering the remote location and the fact that it remains open out of season we were very happy with our food and service, but don't expect five star gourmet meals. Book your meal in advance as they don't do walk- ins.

Nice atmosphere. Interesting after dinner talk about the area. Good wholesome local food which reflects traditional South African home cooking

Accommodation was shocking had to climb a near vertical set of steps to get to the room. The security door at the top of the steps opened outwards resulting in a balance problem. Room was noisy from restaurant and lounge downstairs. The bathroom was screened off from the room with a curtain. Untidy room with a lot of storage items.No... More

I have to say that the nreakfasts were very mediocre. The one evening meal that we had was not too bad. The lady who serves and cooks is charming and helpful. Better I think to self-cater. But buy provisions before hand as there is nothing to be had in local shops.

we enjoyed a wonderful Lamb Shank on our first night and Bobotie and Chicken pie on our second night. Great wholesome meal served with plenty of vegetables and very reasonably priced wine.
