I always return to Oep when I'm in the area, and am never disappointed. The bistro has undergone some changes lately, but the ladies now running the show have managed to maintain the same excellent quality of west coast home style food that Oep is known for, all served with smiles in a relaxing and understated garden setting. What a... More

As with all the other tourist shops in Paternoster, this one is exceptionally expensive. Are they expecting only the very rich to shop there? Not for me thanks.

Feeling peckish after having returned from a beach-buggy ride, we decided to pop into this authentic little eatery. We sat in the quiet garden with quirky tablecloths and a herb garden in a boat. The waitress was friendly and efficient. The menu isn't very big and changes daily. We opted for a cheese platter and the mussel soup. These turned... More

Spent a long afternoon at oep ve koep in March 2016 with some friends. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It should be viewed more as an experience than a lunch per se, as we weren't particularly full after leaving, but were definitely satisfied. The food is tasty, unique, inventive and freshly locally sourced. We would never have tried half the things on... More

We loved the contrast between the simplicity of the setting and the extraordinary dishes. The garden setting creates a lovely relaxing atmosphere and each dish brings a tasty “fine dine” combination of surprising ingredients, usually locally sourced. We loved the fact that Chef Kobus van der Merwe visits guests at their tables and serves some of the dishes himself, always... More

From the first course to the last, a true taste explosion and culinary education. At the price, a bit undecided about value for money... True culinary genius but ingredients are not on the expensive side, nor are the portions sizes more than 2 or 3 bites at the most. Except for the bread course which we gathered is there to... More

My friend and I were in Paternoster for one day and pre booked the restaurant We thought that Oep de Koep was a pleasant enough atmosphere, the food was interesting but somehow it did not quite gel and departed still a little hungry – experimental fine dining in a closed boma without even a view of the sea.

Wow! I last ate here about 18 months ago and it's definitely stepped up a notch. It's now a 8 course tasting style menu. Lunch took about 3 hours, so it was a very relaxed affair in the courtyard garden. An excellent wine list of West Coast wines and reasonably priced. Kobus, the chef personally comes to the table and... More

Kobus van der Merwe forages and grows and cooks and serves the food of the Strandveld. I was introduced to this little marvel by botanist Rupert Koopman, who also advised chef Kobus on his cookbook, Strandveldfood. One of my favorite culinary experiences ever, I cannot wait to see where Kobus's imagination goes next.
