As usual we went for the three course menu, which is a really complete meal. We had the 'Vittello Tonato' as a starter, and this was a modern twist of the original Italian dish. A very good start of our evening.
The main course was a zander filet, accompanied with some sidedishes (vegetables, meshed potatoes and a butter sause. Very good again...
The desert was so nicely built up with different products! It was a pleasure to see it and taste it (based on red fruits).
The staff is very kind and may also advise you about the fitting wines.
We can strongly reccommend this restaurant!

We discovered Achter de Poorte while staying in a
cabin on the Veluwe early in the pandemic and keep returning. Excellent, creative food, well-presented and good service. This is our 3rd time back and finally in the restaurant which was nice. This time with a good wine-food pairing that didn't disappoint. Not cheap but a great date night or treat for foodies. Can't wait to try their popup restaurant tonight.

I am visiting my friends who live in Vaassen and they have been looking so forward to eating at this restaurant. We all order from the menu with pick 3 for 51E each. You could have 4 or 5 picks as price goes up. My friend was excited to eat a vegetarian meal. He was so disappointed from the start to the end. If we were in America I would have returned each one of them it was a joke and no taste at all. Lucky his wife shared her plate of chicken with him. The chicken was ok but the sides were not good. I had fish with risotto. The fish was delicious but had a lot of bones. Halfway through I realized u had to lift the bones off with the skin. They should have told us this it was no fun to eat picking bones. The risotto was 2 little spoon scoops of a rice but was not risotto. A couple vegetables that were tasteless. All 3 courses were bad. Even the dessert was a joke. The 4 of us did not finish dessert because it was just bad.
Sorry for the terrible review but a total waste of money. The town and restaurant is very cute to bad the food wasn’t.

As a frequent traveller, who dines out 180-200 times a year, most of my meals are forgettable. Not this one: from the moment I entered, I was made to feel welcome. The friendliness and the easy professionalism make you feel at ease and comfortable. The food was excellent, without being overly fussy, well cooked, well presented and coming with the right amount of time in between. Having a good 3-course meal, with water, 2 glasses of wine and (an excellent) coffee for less than €50, is in my book very good value for money.

In a very nice atmosphere in a very tasteful decorated room this cook and the staff present everything you would ever wish for in having an ´experience´ in stead of having a meal. The menu is excellent in taste, fresh products, colours, creative, subtle and so lovely to eat! The wines they select are going so well with the chosen menu we had. Even the bread ´garni´ is so different and takes your full attention to enjoy the subtle flavours. You are spoiled with lovely ´amuses´ when you come in, there is suddenly a ´pre dessert´ being presented and lovely to taste. And with the coffee there are these ´friandises´ going with it that make the evening complete and we left curious why this restaurant does not have a star. We have had meals in Star restaurants in France that were no comparison with ´Achter de Poorte´. So 3 cheers for the friendly and very competent staff that gave us an unforgettable evening in many ways.

A bit tucked away behind the citywall of Elburg, next to the gate to the port sits a very nice restaurant. Our surpisemenu was excelent with matching wines. All the flavours were present. Friendly staff.

A visit with Dutch friends who had eaten there before and picked this for our last night.
What a good choice. We chose to eat outdoors - effectively in the narrow street outside the restaurant...it was a warm evening and the cool breeze was very welcome.
The service, with excellent English, was warm and friendly, the food was great - well presented and delicious.
The price including beer and wine was within our comfort zone
Elburg is a very quaint old fishing port with lovely aged properties and interesting narrow streets - worth a visit on its own but add the Achter de Pooterie and the visit is doubly worthwhile.

We were spending a week in Vaassen this summer and found this restaurant on TripAdvisor.
It was a 30 minute drive there, but after having dinner there this was an insignificant detail.
The food was really really good, service fast and friendly. The restaurant is small yet cozy, and indicated literally "behind the gate" (as the name in Dutch suggests).
After dinner we went for a walk in Elburg, it was really quiet and romantic, we loved it!
A real must if you're in the area!

Little wonder this great restaurant has such strong reviews as it delivers on pretty well every level.
Despite having to recently hire a new chef the standard of food, presentation and overall quality is excellent. The tuna entrée with mekame seaweed, squid ink mayonnaise and avocado cream with langoustine foam was really excellent. For mains we picked filet of bream and the veal cooked two ways - slow and seared, delicious. My mouth watering dessert was raspberries, with raspberry ice cream, raspberry caviar and merangue......perfect.
While the menu is entirely in Dutch the staff painstakingly took us through each dish to ensure we understood them before making our choices.
The décor and ambience are tasteful, charming and make for a very relaxed evening.
The wine list is reasonable and has a good selection of both red and white wines.
Recommend it highly and would return anytime.

Fantastic food and really accommodating service. We tried the "surprise menu" which was the chefs choice of recommended dishes paired with wines. A real treat!
We had our dog with us and the staff happily placed us in a corner out of the way and let him go to sleep.

Great location, great food. The service is fantastic. We visit often, we love it. Try the surprise menu with the surprise wine. You can not go wrong.
In the summer try their apple cake.

We have been eating in this restaurant several times and it has always been a pleasure.
The cosy restaurant is located in the lovely village of Elburg, in a small alley, right behind the city walls.
The restaurant is small and has the same romantic feel as the entire village.
Staff is very friendly and helpful, always trying to answer all your questions, sometimes even willing to give details of the recipes.
We prefer to opt for the (surprise)menus this restaurant offers instead of eating à -la-carte (sometimes the restaurant offers a menu up to 20 small courses, a real dinner-marathon). The menus consist of several smaller courses, giving you the opportunity to taste many different ingredients and discover real surprises. Every ingredient has been delicately prepared and combinations are sometimes very unexpected, but always tasteful. Also the presentation of the courses is a joy for the eyes. To us, some of the preparations would deserve a Michelinstar.
In case of a surprisemenu, staff will enquire if you have any allergies or if there is any food you do not eat.
Winepairing to the menus is possible and a nice solution. For the driver, a smaller winepairing (a Bob-winepairing) is also offered.
Anything negative ? In summer, the restaurant has a small terrace, but this is right on the street and facing the old Walls, so maybe not the best place to sit. Better choose an inside table, but next to the open doors.
All in all, we love to come here and enjoy the superb food, the relaxed atmosphere, the matching wines, the reasonable prices for this high quality and the smiling staff.
We obviously recommend a visit to restaurant Achter de Poorte.
