It's a bit hard to find but once you do you will be glad you did! Went there for dinner tonight and could not have been happier. The Tonkatsu Pork Cutlet we had was incredible - perfectly seasoned and prepared! Not usually a big fan of Miso soup BUT this was far and away the best Miso I have ever... More

Really nice place frequented by locals. The pork tonkatsu is really good and the miso soup full of flavors! The staff is nice too. English/French menu available. Try the set #1!

tasty tonkatsu in a simple setting - we were seated quickly (Japanese-style, on tatami) and had crispy tonkatsu in a set with rice, pickles, and raw cabbage. the mustard condiment is seriously zesty. tonkatsu had a light batter, good meat - we couldn't really tell the difference between the sirloin (about 1400 yen) and the fillet (about 1800 yen), both... Just go! This was a great experience and delicious meal! Hard to find if you don't know Japanese lol... I only found it by looking at the pictures here on trip advisor. We got the set meals #1 (pork) and #2 (shrimp, scallop, croquette, etc). Delicious!

recommended. after visiting the ueno area for the zoo or museum. go there. Yummy. pretty old fashioned, authentic japan feeling. And don't forget to go to supermarket to buy some japanese tempura bread crumbs, which is different from ours. hopefully can make tempura at home, although i know it's very unlikely that i can make the same pork chop at... I arrived 5 mins before opening and there's already a line up of 10 people. To avoid having to wait too long, I think don't go with more than a couple people, or be willing to be seated separately. Mostly local customers and servers are older Japanese women, so not sure they speak any English. As mentioned, the price is... More

No tourists, no fuss, and great food generally. I'm not a big pork fan but this was really good. A little bit more expensive than I expected, but still pretty nice. Recommended!

Here you can taste real pork cutlets in Japanese style. On the table a menu with prices in place. Dishes are not super cheap, but very tasty, enough quantity, and traditional. Interior and exterior are also super nice, and most of Japanese would feel like staying grandmother’s house. At this moment, the most of guests are Japanese, include local or... More

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
