This my third trip to Japan and I just love food. This restaurant is cheap and the food is delicious, especially the rice. There's machine to buy your meal of choice. Just insert the right amount of money and a coupon will be dispensed with your change. Just present the coupon to the food to the attendant when seated. This... More

This chain of food outlet is conveniently located across Tokyo. We were new to Tokyo looking for a nice brunch and found this place. Greeted by a digital menu where you make your selection, order and pay. Take the ticket to the counter and hands to the cook who is smiley and friendly. Within minutes our food is ready and... More

Pleasantly surprised how an affordable chain store in Japan can be selling such heavenly food. Wish I had time and stomach space to try every item on the menu.

We arrived in Tokyo starved and looking for a quick meal. The service was slow and the waiters were pulled in too many directions. We ordered the shoulder cut meat which was more expensive but it was chewy and inedible. The bibimbap and scallion pancake were okay but greasy. Would stay away...

Matsuya is a chain of fast food restaurants in Japan. They are everywhere and you'll recognize the logo easily. Service is efficient, food is good and price is relatively inexpensive. When you're looking for quick hot food on the run, you can't beat this:)

I was a bit hungry and want some cheap quick food, Matsuya was a good choice. I had a 450yen pork and rice bowl. The food was just so-so but it was cheap food so no complain.

Do not have much time to spend on a meal? Come here to have some good beef rice. You have to order at the machine which has English option so there won't be a worry not understanding what you're looking at. The portion is decent and tastes good.

Matsuya should open all over the world so that everybody can have access to cheap, good food. I ate here 6 times in various branches all over tokyo in my 8-day stay. Y400 could get you a very hearty breakfast. menu available in English and you can purchase from a touch screen machine. Simple. Fast. Efficient. Good Comfort Food.

Quick, cheap and delicious food. You order at the machine which also has an English language option. The beef and rice I had was delicious.

Matsuya, just like Yoshinoya and Sukiya is a chain of restaurants all over Japan that mainly serve donburi. Some are 24hr and all are open from breakfast til late. Most of the meals consist of stir-fried beef over rice, but there is also some with veg, fish, chicken, and maybe even steak and eggs on a hotplate. Funnily enough, the... More

Staying in Shinjuku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.
