We had half an hour to grab something to eat and this was just a Godsend with heavenly bread and pastries. I had a small sandwich and a couple of pastries, not cheap, but not too expensive either, it's true you get what you pay for. The bread for my sandwich was just the best, I don't think I've ever... If your from Europe or England then this place can get you out of jail when you need something simple and more familiar. Like a sandwich or a cake. Plenty on offer and all taste great. Cheap too.

I followed the steps described in Marsgoddess' review dated 27-Jul-2015 (thank you!!), and it was a breeze finding the Andersen concession in Isetan Shinjuku. I entered the store from opposite H&M, and took the stairs to the basement. The stairs are just behind the bank of lifts, so it was the same route. Contrary to some of the other reviewers... More

I love every single thing I´ve tried in Andersen, but nobody in the entire world should die without trying their bread filled with potato and butter. I can´t believe something so incredibly scrumptious exists.

Andersen (Danish bakery) around Tokyo. I am giving you three places where I know from experience that an Andersen bakery shop is in operation in Tokyo. All of them have good bread, not too crazy priced, however not cheap, but without the Japanese tendency to sweeten their bread, which makes it to my European palate inedible. price of half a loaf... Andersen is a bakery that has a great selection of various baked goods. This is a great place to stop for a quick bite on the go. If you do not understand Japanese, expect to be surprised by some of the selections. Many of the danishes and bun have random fillings. Everything that I tried was delicious!

This is not a cafe but a bakery in the ground floor of the Isetan Shinjuku department atore. Next to classy take-away sushi and japanese sweets you find danish bread (not rye bread unfortunately) and pastries. And the Danish taste exactly like in Denmark. At 210 yen it's not even overly expensive.

In the busy streets of Japan, it's nice to find somewhere that's a bit of a haven to sit in and enjoy a coffee and cake. The food quality is high as it is in a lot of these types of places in Tokyo and they had a variety of different pastries and cakes (inclsuind fun heart-shaped ones which were... More

About the closest thing you can get to a Danish bakery in Japan. Quality is top notch, just wish they had the typical danish with marzipan

Staying in Shinjuku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.
