Following up on the reviews below on Trip Advisor we headed over to Yutaka on our second last night in Japan. Staying at the THE GATE HOTEL Asakusa Kaminarimon made easy as it was just a few minutes away. Thank you to the people who wrote about this place because they were not wrong...it was certainly the best Tonkatsu we... More

Very nice restaurant in a small and quiet street near the temple. Place with traditional decoration. Most of the customers were locals when I was there. The tonkatsu was delicious : tender meat and crispy crust. Served with miso soup and rice. Around ¥ 2 000 / person The staff was friendly and the waitress spoke English.

We loved the tonkatsu, really tasty and crisp! The fried scallops were also lovely. Served with rice, miso and a delicious sauce. The service is very friendly and helpful also. Recommended!

Probably the best tonkatsu I've experienced in Japan so far. Around 2.000¥ per person. Wanted to try oyster but it was unavailable as it's seasonal. Next time :p

Located in one of the cosy streets of Asakusa, we were happy to find this place. We had the Tonkatsu (pork loin) and crab croquettes. Both were great! Perfectly cooked pork and crunchy crust. The filling of the croquette was silky and very tasty. Staff was nice and can explain the menu in english. Very good dinner.

This place is easy to find on the Trip Advisor site. Filled with Japanese locals, it has the best tempura pork or shrimp we had on this trip. The sake and beer was very high quality and reasonable. Don't miss the Japanese pickles!

Hidden in one of the smaller streets perpendicular to the road where the famous Kaminarimon Gate to Senso-ji Temple is situated. (We found it crossing the street from The Gate Hotel, walk to 2nd street west direction, then turn right and its past the first intersection on the left...EASY). This tonkatsu house has been operating for over 60 years! (it... More

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
