Very good Wagyu beef. Old yet well maintained restaurant. Tatami setting is available. Their specialty is called Gyunabe which you cook Wagyu beef, vegetables and tofu in a iron skillet with soy based sauce. The average budget for lunch is 4000 yen per person.

Second night in Tokyo, went to this restaurant last night based on the review. The place is clean. The beef is good quality, very small menu. Nice experience, a bit pricy for the amount of food they serve. Don't think we will rush back!

You can have traditional and real sukiyaki in Edo-style at reasonable price on tatami-floor. Once you entered the restaurant, staff beats a drum, which # of beat is actually # of the guests in your group! The taste of sukiyaki- is really nice. It’s the real, traditional Japanese beef. Sake, alcohol menu is not so nice, so it is a... More

This restaurant serves "gyu-babe" whick is similar to "sukiyaki". Some people say that gyu-nabe is not appropriate way to eat beef. But, this restaurant serves very good beef, for sure, for Japanese standard . I myself like this this shoppe Yonekyu's gyu-nabe. Location of this shoppe is very interesting. And you can enjoy Japanese traditional building of this shoppe. You... More

I first came here more than 30 years ago, and although the neighborhood has changed, Yonekyu is still a lovely spot for a DIY sukiyaki meal sitting on the tatami mats on the floor next to a small but gorgeous Japanese garden. Service is warm and lovely, and you will be greeted by the beating of a huge drum to... More

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
