It was quite busy on a Saturday for lunch, including some very large tables of quite loud women! Luckily it is a large enough venue that this wasn't really an issue. The service was okay, could have been a little 'warmer', just felt a little routine. But the food was served hot, good portion sizes, and without too much of... More

Dear Cherilyn M, Saturdays do get very busy and and when we get groups of ladies they can get a bit noisy, I think they just enjoy being out with other ladies and catch up on every thing that is happening. I take on point you comment about staff could have been a bit "warmer". Sometimes younger people are a... More

There were three adults and a child. We had the snapper fish of the day and chicken breast and a kid's meal. Service was extremely slow and the fish had to be returned as they were too salty as was the accompanying mashed wasabi peas.

I would very much liked to know when you visited us because from that we can see what chefs were on duty, having food served that was to salty should never happen because we have condiments on all tables for guests to add as they wish. Having the date can also help find out why the service would be slow,... More

We enjoyed a cup of cappuccino and americano in Soljans Cafe. I believe this place really shows its value when larger groups would like to have meals together with some great local wines. Good cafeteria but real value is serving larger groups.

Dear beachstone2c, We get lots of different groups through and have the facilities to handle them which is great. We get groups in celebrating all sorts of occasions as well as international tour groups who also enjoy the local food matched with our great wines. We also of course cater for individuals in the cafe as well so everyone is... More

Superb food and excellent service from knowledgable and friendly staff in glorious surroundings. Try the 2016 Pinot Noir - probably the best wine we tasted on this trip.

We have been for brunch on several occasions,if you get a table outside on a sunny day it is great. Food is lovely but the staff appear to be all very young and even when they are not overly busy it is quite slow. Once your food is delivered you rarely get a return visit so if you want a... More

Dear Felix2000nz, We do hire a number of young people and we continually monitor their performance to ensure they are doing things right. I have forwarded your review to the cafe for them all to read because having a customer notice staff being unattentive is something that should never happen. There are a number of reason why there can be... More

They were super busy but very attentive. Kept us informed as to length of time to wait. Yummy food. Special mention to the waiter Harrison for great customer service.

First something positive - the kids liked it as there was an area for them to play. The wine tasting was pleasant and our table was ready for us. I have eaten out almost every day in NZ for the last 9 years and before this I have had one bad meal in NZ. I have now had 2. The... More

Dear Will S, Always good to start with a positive so I was very pleased to read you enjoyed the wine tasting and that the children enjoyed the outside area. I find your comment on the duck interesting because we do not have Duck LOrange we have Roast duck which is slow roasted to make it nice and tender. It... More

Soljans cafe has a nice setting and you can have a great lunch and do some wine tasting at the shop. Just outside the restaurant you can see some of their vineyards. We had lunch on a Sunday and booked in advance (1 day) which was necessary beceause it became very busy after we arrived.

Visited as part of a wine tour. It is very rare among a party of 10 people for every single person to say that the lunch was superb (in fact I don't think I've ever been in such a party). Certainly among the best lunches I've had at a restaurant.
