A huge disappointment. We were staying in Whitby for a midweek break. The Estbek had the reputation of the best seafood restaurant in the area so we took a taxi to Sandsend. What a mistake- we could have had a better meal at any of...the Fish & Chip joints in Whitby. The starters were bland & unimaginative. My hake main course was overcooked & the crab sauce lacking in any flavour. My partner had the baked crab main- unbelievable- a crab shell half filled with a puree of vegetables and virtually no crab. We declined pudding and made our escape. Vastly overpriced at £125 including aperetifs & bottle of wineMore

I can't understand some of the negative comments. I've always wanted to dine at Estbek during our trips to Whitby and was not disappointed. Our meal was most enjoyable, tasty starter, hake beautifully cooked, and delightful little taster puddings. Good wine too. Service was courteous...and efficient in a very comfortable setting. We consider ourselves to be foodies and not always easily pleased, but to date this was the best meal we have had in the Whitby area. Good place for a special occasion.More

Unimaginative. It felt like this place was trading on some AA rosettes earned over a decade ago. Did the chef leave? Hugely overpriced. Nothing was really good. Dull mouse boucle. A watery bland soup. The pepper and walnut pate was bland and was accompanied by...the same undressed salad that came with the vegetarian lasagne which was more like a ratatouille and didn't stand up as a main course. The Gordon's starter was okay and the halibut okay but with dull steamed vegetables. Some soggy chips accompanied the lasagne. Prices were high. Service fine and unnervingly quick. They took the especially dull vegetarian courses off the bill thankfully.More

We last visited Estbeck House 10 years ago . We retuned to Whitby for the weekend and re visited Estbeck House . The service and food was superb, yes this is not a cheap night out but we throughly enjoyed our evening . Wine and...every course was just delicious, the deserts were a highlight . The owners should be proud of maintaining its standards over the course of timeMore

Sadly disappointed with the high expectations I had for recent dinner. The food was fine but pub quality and not justifying these prices. Combined with decor and an ambience that did not add up to the promised experience. I do not lightly criticise after the...difficult last year and wish them luck with the futureMore

We ate in the restaurant as part of our stay in the hotel and had a lovely evening. The food was brilliant and the staff were very personable and attentive. The bottle of wine we had (Seifried Riesling) is one of the nicest I've tasted....The seafood was lovely and we really enjoyed the dessert platter! Would visit againMore

Beautiful restaurant with wonderful service. Probably one of the last restaurants to use plastic Covid separations between tables. Very good ambiance. Our food was of high quality: hot smoked salmon, white bait, fresh cod with samphire and new potatoes - all delicious. To top this...all of we each had a plate of 2 small mini- desserts (you can choose 3, 5 or even 10!) - along the lines of Cafe Gourmand in France, which I love! The desserts are to die for and just the right size for me. Excellent service and we had a lovely chat at the end with one of the waitresses - real friendly place.More

High class dining in elegant surrounds with excellent service. Note the price reflects that too but it’s an indulgence worth treating yourself to if in the area. Go for the Lobster Thermidor, splendid stuff.

This place just oozes quality - the staff all have that calm professional manner that comes from years of experience. The menu is fish-based and not huge - always a good sign and the food was absolutely delicious. The only thing that surprised me was...the wine list that had almost no French wines on it at all. That said we had a delicious bottle of Australian chardonnay that the list claimed was in the same league as Montrachet. Not quite that but a very pleasant drink. All in all a thoroughly good experience from start to finish and good value for money.More

Romantic, great choice of dishes, superb knowledge of wine, with some interesting choices (S. Australia a favourite of mine too). We had a great time in the restaurant, and the breakfast was of similar quality. Worth the visit and a return one.
