We walked through the door and were greeted with warm smiles and a friendly welcome. The Ale was excellent and we had a most enjoyable traditional meal again brought to us with smiles. Our first visit but will certainly not be our last.

One of the best roast lamb meals I have had in a long time. My husband said the same about his roast beef. Very tender meat served with crunchy roasters, Yorkshire pud and fresh veg. Gravy was also just the right amount and consistency. Sticky toffee pudding with custard and warm cherry tart with ice cream finished off the meal... More

Easter Saturday family treat, very busy, very good food, always a winner! Very dog friendly, surrounded by some lovely walks, especially as we haven't had rain for weeks! Looking forward to our next visit!

We didn't really feel welcome here. The plough mans lunch was ok but there was little atmosphere or warmth about the place. Maybe because it was so early. Lovely walk though around the Knoyles.

We are in Shaftesbury on holiday and we decided to have a look at local pubs, we found the Fox & Hounds and the website stated that they had gluten free food (as my partner and his mum and coeliac). We turned up at the pub and the man behind the bar couldn't even put a smile on his face.... More

We casme upon this almost by accident. The food was good, tasty and well presented, though it took some time to arrive, (possibly as I choose the Roast Duck!) Bar staff were attentive and helpful ambiance was very good and the chess games going on were instructive. A very welcome break from the A303/A30 and to be rembereerd in the... More

Four of us visited this local restaurant for a quiet evening meal. A warm welcome was received from the staff and our table pointed out to us. There was a good range of ales available and the 'strange' choice of drinks from one of our party was delivered without a question. The variety of food from the menu and specials... More

Well, the walk was good, and long, and I was looking forward to a nice lunch. Nice enough pub I am sure but I chose a Ceasar salad - am eating sensibly and everything else seemed to have chips and other unsuitable ingredients. Salad consisted of a few bits of chicken, which were fine, some unattractive 'croutons' - for want... More

We booked a table for a family meal and in general the food was ok but not outstanding however the Thai Curry I ordered was so vile I was unable to eat more than a mouthful. I tried to get the waiters attention but to no avail. The waiter eventually came over after we had all finished our mains and... More
