I went for lunch here one day and I ordered a chicken parmigiana (or parmie in Australian) because everyone one knows that this is the lunch of champions. When it came out it overhung the plate by several inches. I estimate it was 17 inches long. You could get kangaroo on it instead of ham but I'm an old school... More

Napier Hotel is a bar/hotel/restaurant in Fitzroy (the place for you if Melbourne is not hipstery enough for ya). The inside was ok, but I paid 13$ for a pint of beer?!?! They should be candidates for winning "most expensive pint in Straya".

Went here based on recommendation from my son who is on a gap year, and in total five of us enjoyed a good time and some decent food. This place is much more like a proper pub, so worth the slight effort (a A$12 and 10 minute Uber journey) of moving away from central Melbourne. Excellent atmosphere, big selection of... More

Would have been happy to give this pub a much higher rating given the afternoon started well for the four of us. Casual Sunday afternoon for drinks and lunch which we all thought was good not great. The others had fish, & steak and I ordered salad to go along with the linguine with crab & chilli. I found a... More

The Napier Hotel was the dinner venue two nights in a row. Once for the Black Peppercorn Kangaroo, and once for the Chicken Parmigiana with smoked kangaroo. Both were substantial, and delicious. The choice of beers, both local and imported, is good. There is long table and bench style seating inside, and smaller tables outside. Gas heaters keep the outside... More

Fantastic Pub. Great beer on tap, great AFL atmosphere, and awesome restaurant quality food dished up by the chef and very reasonable prices. We have been here 3 times now, and the bar staff are super friendly, and as mentioned the beer and the food is great. Its the small things that often matter, like the even distribution of salt... Lived in Melbourne for a few years now and can't see past this place! Porterhouse steak cooked to perfection every time.my girlfriend also gets the Parma every time as she reckons it's also the best she has had in Melbourne. You could find some cheaper options around but in my eyes, you pay for what you get when it comes... More

A nice old style pin that doesn't take itself too seriously. The purists area is a good size but could use a little more natural light. Nice cozy little fire inside and a solid beer choice.

Staying in Fitzroy

Neighbourhood Profile
Fitzroy is an unusual blend of working class roots, hip gentrification, and a robust bohemian work ethic. Along Brunswick Street and its side streets, you'll find little independent shops where local clothes and furniture designers display their wares. There are specialist bookshops, funky record bars, and quality vintage clothing shops where browsing is the next best thing to buying. Gertrude Street is famous for its cuisine and art galleries, but if you want to buy an old-fashioned snooker table, there is a shop for that too. Small pubs still exist, tucked away on the corners of suburban side streets that serve up traditional Sunday roasts. Live music abounds, and the street performers play so hard you worry to tip them would ruin their concentration. Venture to the Spanish quarter on Johnston Street and you may even find street dancing. It is all happening amidst off-beat street murals and the shuffle of a very funky neighbourhood that embraces both old and new.
