We were staying at the Hotel le Clos next door and it seemed sensible to eat here. Although this was a matter of convenience, it was better than that. We greatly enjoyed our meal – very French (snails etc.) and very much of the region...– a great introduction to the ‘terroir’ of Bourgogne, and, although it was nice not to have to drive afterwards, we would have enjoyed it even if we had had to.More

Welcoming restaurant that allows you to immerse yourself in a very French evening meal. Every dish we chose was delicious and the courtyard setting delightful on a warm evening.

Quirky decor, nice atmosphere and tasty food was spoilt by everything being served so quickly. Hardly a gap between courses. I think there was only one chef so it must have been difficult to plan when restaurant was full. Would still recommend.

The perfect evening after a long day’s drive! We enjoyed the friendly welcome, relaxed atmosphere and a delicious meal of Burgundian classics. There is nothing stiff or stuffy here, and the restaurant is clearly a favourite with the locals (be sure to reserve a table...in advance). The kitchen uses a wood-fired oven to bake bread and prepare many of its signature dishes (the fragrance is divine). Our aperitifs, a house-made kir with white wine, came with toast and olive tapenade. We chose from one of the two menus, starting with escargots for me and slice of terrine with salad for my partner; this was followed by beef cheeks simmered in redwine and a buttery potato puree. The dessert of chocolate mousse was served with a crunchy almond tuille - excellent. We drank a bottle of 2020 pinot noir - the ‘house wine’ recommended by our hostess - a great choice.Because I mentioned that our dog would accompany us, our table was well-located in a corner, out of the way of foot traffic. And all this this at a very decent price-value ratio! We will definitely return!More

To use a Michelin phrase, ‘worth a detour’. I would say, ‘WELL worth a detour’. From the kir to the coffee, everything was perfect. Reasonably priced, excellent price:quality ratio, and very good hosts. An excellent evening.

Don’t be put off by the lack of information on Trip Advisor. This place is fabulous. We were staying at the excellent Hotel le Clos (about 50 metres away) and ate here. Location was gorgeous. Food was incredible. Wine choice limited but quality good. I...had eggs meurette for the first time and was blown away. I also had half of my wife’s fois gras - also excellent. For main courses the veal and the steak were magnificent. Strongly recommend especially if staying at Hotel le Clos. You need to book though.More

Stayed next door and this was the default recommendation for an evening meal. What a find! Quirky kitsch decor but warm and welcoming. Food to die for. We both tried the menu, starters both first class. The mains, simple well cooked beef in red wine...was among the best we have ever tasted. The sweets too, were brilliant, the usual French choc mousse was so far ahead of the usual restaurant fare that it requires a special mention. The sorbet was again far in excess of the usual restaurant fare. This geezer can cook! Stay with the house wine from the bottle it is a local pinot noir and first class.More

We visited this restaurant twice in our stay in Beaune, the food is excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. It has a large covered courtyard, which we eat in on both occasions. The food is cooked virtually in front of you, and is as...fresh as it can be. It didn't get five stars from me, as on our second visit the wine we selected was out of stock, they suggested an alternative, which was billed at more than double the cost of our original selection. Everything else was very good.More

We had the most wonderful and unexpected visit on our way to the south of France , on recommendation of some friends who stay close by and visit on their way down south . The food here is excellent and served up by two up...And running girls . The starter mains and puddings are all served up straight from the wood fired ovens and are incredibly delicious and give one a taste of the best that Burgundy has to offer . I had the most succulent and tasty beef cheeks served with an array of potatoes and garnish , my wife had an excellent Cabiulaud and my daughter a scintillating Pasta , followed by the best Isle flotants I’ve ever tasted ! The wine is reasonably priced and local and the service was second to none . The ambiance and all the table decoration and surroundings were fantastic , you walk through the wonderfully grand gates into a bygone age of statues and fountains , with tables scattered around , the internal dinning areas are exquisite and again from a bygone era . We had a fabulous evening here and made a brilliant beginning of our two week holiday . Thanks to all at the Berger du Temps ! A bientotMore

Wonderful authentic French cuisine - and you can watch the chefs preparing the food. Quite quirky location and the décor looks like it has "evolved" rather than been designed - but that's a positive - it feels completely natural and wonderful. The food is wonderful....Only downside for the British is that smoking at tables is permitted - but this is France and as they say, it goes with the territory.More
