I’m not a foodie - but this place is great. The decor the service and the food. Deffo worth the price. Even my lack of French didn’t hinder me. Brill!

Beautiful atmosphere dining on the long white veranda overlooking the fjord. This French restaurant offers a four course service and consists mainly of meat or seafood. We had the scallops, squash soup, foie gras, salmon mousse, deer and all were excellent. A four course meal...was around $39. Very good food and service. We would definitely return. It is usually necessary to make reservations but we were lucky and got a table without one.More

This wasn't the haute French cuisine with tiny pretentious portions, but country French with satisfying flavors that filled your plate. The pork chops, red deer, scallops, butternut squash soup, mousse...it was totally satisfying. This was our best meal in the town of L'Anse Saint Jean!

We had a lovely four course dinner here. Each course was delicious. We each ordered the lobster for our main and the cream tart for dessert. We would highly recommend dinner here and the price reasonable. The atmosphere was very relaxing and made the evening...extra special.More

Six of us had a superb meal at La Fjordelaise after coming back from a cruise on the fjord. The service was impeccable, the food sublime, the ambiance magic. It was a bit pricy, but well worth the cost. The appetizers were delicious – I...had a fresh green salad with walnuts. A lovely butternut squash/apple soup was served to all after the appetizers. I very strongly recommend the lobster, but my dining companions raved about the duck, the salmon, the beef. There was a vegetarian option on the menu, a mushroom risotto, but we didn't try it. The portion sizes are moderate but I don’t find that a bad thing especially as it allows you to save room for dessers that are to die for: a stunningly delicious feuilleté filled with cream and fresh fruit, a sinfully good chocolate/pear concoction, a maple pudding - all were sensational. Highly recommended.More

We could not find a phone number on their website so couldn't phone to see if we needed a reservation for dinner. But since it is off season we took a chance. We arrived right at 6 p.m. and I think that is when they...open for dinner. When the hosts realized we did not speak French they gave us the French menu with an additional page describing the meal choices in English. Very much appreciated. Our high school French might have helped us interpret some of the food but not all. They serve 4 course meals for about $37pp. It was well worth it. There were about 4 choices for appetizers and we chose the foie gras. It came warm on a slice of toasted bread along with a jelly. Excellent. Also on the plate was a mixed green salad which had the most delicious pea shoots on top. I have seen these on the food channel but never tasted them. One of the hosts even brought me out the package so I could see it. The only disappointment with the salad was that there was perhaps a trickle of dressing at the bottom but otherwise none. Next course was tomato-basil soup nicely presented. For the main course my husband chose medium-rare deer medallion. It came perfectly done with a lovely sauce, roasted potatoes and a mixture of carrot, green beans and asparagus. I chose the shrimp and scallop dish with a lemon sauce. There were 5 nice sized shrimp and 3 large scallops plus sauce, rice, carrot, green beans and asparagus. Very nice portion. The only thing I was not fond of was the rice as it was just plain rice but there was enough sauce on the plate that I could use some with the rice. When the host tried to describe the desserts I think he was describing two of them and I was pretty sure one of them had chocolate in it. My husband had that one. I conveyed that any dessert without chocolate would be fine with me and I must say I think my husband was envious when he saw my dessert. It was wonderful! Phyllo cup filled with some kind of cream (I think there was a taste of cream cheese but it was a soft filling) and on top was a blackberry compote. Oh, just yummy! It was unfortunate that our language barrier prevented me from finding out exactly what was in that filling. If you visit L'Anse St. Jean be sure to have a dinner here. If it is a busy season make a reservation if you can find a phone number. It would also be nice if on their website they mentioned the 4 course meal and perhaps some of the items. No menu on there at all.More

We came into L'Anse St Jean late on a rainy night with no expectations of rooms or a good meal. There was no space at la fjordelaise for rooms, but we decide to try dinner there- great choice! The food here was superb for every...course, our best in Quebec and we loved many meals! I had the risotto, my wife the venison (cerf), the salad and soup courses were delicious. If you are visiting the beautiful Saguenay Fiord, and staying in this beautiful area, try to eat here!More

We stayed here and had two breakfasts and a dinner and all were very good. The tiny dining room fills up at dinner time, as this seems to be the gathering spot for locals. We lucked out with the tourtierre (local meat pie) for dinner,...and when I cleaned my plate, they brought me a second helping. The salad was very good, with corn plant sprouts making it unique. Fresh bread and a delicious blueberry tart rounded out dinner. Breakfast was standard fare, with egg choices and crepes. Everything we tried was delicious. The potatoes at breakfast are especially worth a mention. Hosts were very nice and patient with the language barrier.More

Fantastic cuisine du terroir, made even more delicious when sitting on the terrace overlooking the fjord. The table d'hôte is a very good deal and you won't leave hungry! The service was wonderful too, always someone checking to make sure all is well. This restaurant...is definitely a highlight of staying at this b&b, which I will review later, but so far highly recommended. Btw: I had an amazing salmon tartar and mushroom risotto, to die for!More

The food was excellent & we bought the package of staying in the hotel with breakfast and dinner. I posted this information under hotels, but want to post it here is someone is looking for a good restaurant. For dinner we had salad & foix...gras, carrot & broccoli soup, lobster with carrots, string beans, potatoes, rice, bread. All delicious. Dessert was cheese cake-like & chocolate mousse. Breakfast the next morning was thin pancakes & bacon cooked perfectly. That evening I had reindeer & my husband had scallops & shrimp. It's a wonderful restaurant & real gourmet food.More

We had dinner here in the end of June. It was Wednesday. Only we and another couple were in the dining room and one more couple outside on the terrace. We came after 8 pm hostess didn’t recommend to sit outside because of the bugs...and mosquitoes. We had view of Saguenay Fjord at sunset that was just fantastic. We ordered from the prix-fixe menu (4-courses, price depends on what you chose for Main course, on average $35 p/p). We also ordered bottle of Italian red. The meal started with appetizer. I had foie gras with small salad and jam; my husband had salmon tartar with salad & toasts. Both were delicious. Next course was soup of the day – yellow zucchini cream soup, it was very good. For Main course I had deer steak that was cooked perfectly medium-rare with wine sauce, very tender, delicious. My husband had lamb chops - very good as well. Side dishes for both mains were fried wedge potatoes, green beans, carrot and asparagus. For desserts we had chocolate mousse and pear and puff pastry with raspberries and cheese; coffee and tea. We liked raspberry dessert better. Pear tasted like they came from the can... To summarize: Good selection, nice presentation, great view, good service and value. I would recommend this place.More
