We are staying at the belum rainforest resort and decided to drive to Gerik for dinner,
actually looking for this place called Chow Y, where they have famous wild boar curry.
After wandering around we found that all the chinese restaurants were closed. I dont...know if in Gerik they all close early daily or if its because its Monday night.
The town is really quiet. Very few restaurants were open. Mostly malay or indian muslim restaurants which also looked really empty.
And then we saw this place which is off the main road. Really packed with customers. and so we went there. Not only was it the only really lively place we saw but it was also the ONLY chinese restaurant which was open.
Family type eatery. Run by Thais I think but very friendly service. menu was half in Thai so we had to get someone to explain it all to us.
Mostly Thai style food with some chinese dishes. Full of families with kids.
We had fried chicken , kangkong with garlic and a vegetable soup. Food was okay. Not great.
But tasty enough. Very cheap by Kuala Lumpur standards.
chicken was RM 10.00, soup and vege both 6.oo. we also had three drinks. Total bill 32.00
Gerik is a fairly large town. would have expected more eateries to be open. Still I was quite happy with this place. would i return....probably not but for those of you who go to the belumresorts and want to have dinner in gerik town, this is one option.
