being in Nova Scotia most of the experience has to be Seafood. The Chowder House is a non pretentious eatery that serves the most reasonably priced seafood. My wife and I both had the Fisherman's platter filled with scallops, clams shrimp mussels and haddock. sides...More

The name should be called Fish and Chips House because they were excellent, the chowder was very disappointing. Other reviews said it was thick and creamy with lots of crab/fish, while others had what we experienced... thin and watery with lots of corn. I’m pretty...More

After reading all the great reviews, we planned to stop here on our Cabot Trail tour. What we experienced was nothing like what others wrote in their reviews. The restaurant was take-out only, with a very small menu of mostly sandwiches and chowder, and was...More

We got there early and walked the point a bit waiting for it to open. Worth the wait! We had a bowl of the seafood chowder, a bowl of corn chowder, and a single piece fish fry, and I was glad to be able to...More

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch at the Chowder House. We both ordered the lobster sandwich, and were blown away by the generous portions of lobster on them! We visited on a Sunday, right at the start of the lunch rush, and though they were super...More

The Staff must have had a communal bad day or something as all were rather stone-faced and unhappy-looking (the only place we experienced this on a 2-week vacation down east). Started with a cup of chowder at $7.95. Tiny cup of weak chowder. Bad start....More

My wife and I have been traveling, hiking, and 'restauranting' for 1 week in Cape Breton. This was by far our favorite stop so far. Very friendly service, incredibly fresh, tasty, and authentic. We shared crab cakes as an appetizer, I had the lobster club...More

We planned to eat at the Chowder House after hiking all morning. When we arrived mid afternoon and found a seat quickly. A couple who had been seated decided to leave & gave us their table (this might have been a sign!). 3 tables were...More

Excellent haddock burger, very casual diner with great atmosphere and views that will take your breath away. Service was great, friendly people as with all locations in Nova Scotia! So glad I found this lovely spot.

We plan on closing Oct 15. We are open 11:30 am until 6:30 pm. Sorry, we do not serve breakfast.
It is unfortunate you feel this way. I am the waitress you are referring to. I had offered each and every customer that arrived at the restaurant that day to be seated in the cooler section. Unfortunately there were no tables available at that time and people waiting to be seated.. They preferred to sit in the section that had the best view as did yourself with your group. There was only one lady in the group of 6 that was uncomfortable and I did keep checking her. The others in her group were fine. The gentlemen with her also thanked me for the wonderful service. Their food was ready to be served and we were not to have people moving to tables (with food in their hands). We are very small and try our best to accommodate each and every patron. We always go over and above what is expected of us. As for "seniors beware" we host residents from the nursing home every year and they are treated with the utmost respect. We hope you do return to our restaurant and as they were before, circumstances will be friendly and accommodating. We appreciate each and every comment that it placed on this site. I am certified with Tourism Nova Scotia and have worked in the Hospitality Industry for a total of 20 years. There is always room for improvement in any business no matter what the circumstance. When you return we will treat you and each person young and old equally as we always do. Thank you for your patronage. I hope your next visit to Cape Breton will be a pleasurable one.

This was not my review. I had no trouble with any of the staff which I indicated--just the food--probably the worst I had in Nova Scotia during our three week vacation. We were a couple.
