Neil’s Harbour is a beautiful little fishing village. We stayed at a Ocean View cottage .Our last night before heading to Halifax we decided to go to the Chowder House for dinner . Well we were not disappointed. Our waitress suggested that we have the SeaFood...More

We visited on Father's Day Sunday and this small eatery in the very charming fishing villagen in Neils Harbour was pretty busy midday. We understand it was early in the season and they were short of experienced help; however everything was really, really slow. Our...More

This was our first time in Neil's Harbour. We had lunch here. It was great. I had the clam strips platter. We were especially fortunate because you sit looking out over the harbour AND we got to see a whale breach the water no fewer...More

While traveling the Cape Breton coast we came upon a small, totally unpretentious local restaurant. It was lunch time and we were hungry. Well it was like we were part of the community. The ladies doing the cooking and serving were so friendly. My husband...More

This is the real thing. Not a faked up, trumped up, tourist stop place. The place is run by fishermen, wives of fishermen, off spring of fishermen. It isn't fancy, it isn't run by business savvy people. It's run by people who've spent their lives...More

Enjoying a warm bowl of seafood chowder in Neil's Harbor was a wonderful way to spend part of Father's Day. My chowder was #2 among the seven bowls I've had since arriving one week ago and my wife's snow crab cakes left her wanting more....More

Small place on a hill by the light house. Steady stream of locals and tourists. The seafood chowder was probably the best we've had in NS, although we now have had several variations which were more or less successful. So thick with seafood you almost...More

So glad we ventured into Neil’s Harbour and ate here. Had the snow crab, which was cooked perfectly and tasted so fresh. Thankfully the shell slows you down to savour each bite. Overheard the folks next to us enjoying the muscles, which the server was...More

Our waitress told us a whale had been spotted out in the bay the day before, but it never appeared while we were there. Windy and cool, so we ate inside, but they do offer meals to go to sit out at the picnic tables...More

Hard to find, which makes it a little more special, know what I mean ? It’s an old, rickety shack of a place that does seafood in a local unpretentious way. Chowders are great, all fried seafood is on the money especially the scallops. The...More

We plan on closing Oct 15. We are open 11:30 am until 6:30 pm. Sorry, we do not serve breakfast.
It is unfortunate you feel this way. I am the waitress you are referring to. I had offered each and every customer that arrived at the restaurant that day to be seated in the cooler section. Unfortunately there were no tables available at that time and people waiting to be seated.. They preferred to sit in the section that had the best view as did yourself with your group. There was only one lady in the group of 6 that was uncomfortable and I did keep checking her. The others in her group were fine. The gentlemen with her also thanked me for the wonderful service. Their food was ready to be served and we were not to have people moving to tables (with food in their hands). We are very small and try our best to accommodate each and every patron. We always go over and above what is expected of us. As for "seniors beware" we host residents from the nursing home every year and they are treated with the utmost respect. We hope you do return to our restaurant and as they were before, circumstances will be friendly and accommodating. We appreciate each and every comment that it placed on this site. I am certified with Tourism Nova Scotia and have worked in the Hospitality Industry for a total of 20 years. There is always room for improvement in any business no matter what the circumstance. When you return we will treat you and each person young and old equally as we always do. Thank you for your patronage. I hope your next visit to Cape Breton will be a pleasurable one.

This was not my review. I had no trouble with any of the staff which I indicated--just the food--probably the worst I had in Nova Scotia during our three week vacation. We were a couple.
