There are an abundance of little cafes along the Cabot Trail. This particular place is at Neil's Harbor. We got there just around 11:30 and by the time we were done it was packed with loads of people waiting. It is a good stopping point...More

Simple seaside diner w/ great food, friendly service and many customer regulars. Be patient; it's worth it. Keep aside some room for the ice cream in the base of the neighboring lighthouse on the other side of the parking lot! Robby of Maui & Friends

Two inattentive and uninterested servers. Our food was marginal at best. This place has a great view but I would pass on eating there again.

We took the Cabot Trail road clockwise and were pretty hungry by the time we got to Neil's Harbor. There are very few places to eat when you come this way around the road. There was a real crowd waiting for lunch, and we got...More

We visited the Chowder house the first week in September and we both said it was average. The chowder was so so, my wife had the crab cakes and found that there was more potato in them than crab. I had the lobster dinner and...More

We saw the sign for the Chowder House and decided to try it out. The road we took to the restaurant runs through a small fishing village where the scenery was incredible. The actual restaurant itself sits on top of a cliff that over looks...More

A gorgeous setting overlooking the Atlantic. Great, hearty chowders (corn and crab or fish). Massive, delicious servings of snow crab and lobster sandwiches. Plump local mussels. What's not to like about this place? Watch for the small sign off the highway pointing to the restaurant....More

We were interested in trying a small dish, as takeout. The place was about 3/4 full, with a couple new people taking tables as we headed for the takeout counter. When we tried to order a very rude waitress brushed us aside in order to...More

The drive to it is good, the location is interesting. The food was so-so. Our server was impossible to understand, which was fun in a strange way.

Neil's Harbour doesn't have many options for a good meal and the Chowder house is located in an excellent location which is what drew us in. We enjoyed a good hardy meal with the kids and enjoyed the view. The seating area is a little...More

We plan on closing Oct 15. We are open 11:30 am until 6:30 pm. Sorry, we do not serve breakfast.
It is unfortunate you feel this way. I am the waitress you are referring to. I had offered each and every customer that arrived at the restaurant that day to be seated in the cooler section. Unfortunately there were no tables available at that time and people waiting to be seated.. They preferred to sit in the section that had the best view as did yourself with your group. There was only one lady in the group of 6 that was uncomfortable and I did keep checking her. The others in her group were fine. The gentlemen with her also thanked me for the wonderful service. Their food was ready to be served and we were not to have people moving to tables (with food in their hands). We are very small and try our best to accommodate each and every patron. We always go over and above what is expected of us. As for "seniors beware" we host residents from the nursing home every year and they are treated with the utmost respect. We hope you do return to our restaurant and as they were before, circumstances will be friendly and accommodating. We appreciate each and every comment that it placed on this site. I am certified with Tourism Nova Scotia and have worked in the Hospitality Industry for a total of 20 years. There is always room for improvement in any business no matter what the circumstance. When you return we will treat you and each person young and old equally as we always do. Thank you for your patronage. I hope your next visit to Cape Breton will be a pleasurable one.

This was not my review. I had no trouble with any of the staff which I indicated--just the food--probably the worst I had in Nova Scotia during our three week vacation. We were a couple.
