Was recommended by the homeowners at the house we rented. Wonderful relaxing place with a great wait staff and owner. All speak English, but I tried to practice as much Spanish as I could. Food was really good, and will be our go to breakfast spot while we're here. Highly recommend!

This is a slice of "La Pura Vida" is the heard Atenas. The service is prompt but not bothersome. The desserts, Postres, are always tempting morsels of tastee goodness. The people are friendly, the place is immaculately clean and a wonderful place to join friends for impromptu meeting os goo dining.

When I first arrived in Atenas I was clueless on everything Costa Rican. One visit to Kay's and I not only received very valuable intel but met some wonderful people. Kay's brings a little bit of home to a strange land. The menu is very US driven and reminds you of home. Breakfast and Lunch only. I love the Gringo... More

The purple running the place are very friendly, like family more than business. The food is decent with an American menu is high light. The fruit and vegetables are very fresh. With my Spanish being so little, it was very nice to be able to communicate more than my basic needs. It's also a great place for connections on what's... More

We went here for breakfast, hoping to get the scoop on what it is like to be an Expat in the Atenas area. Since many northerners have returned to the U S and Canada during the rainy season, we only met a few people. The food was good and reasonably priced and we got a lot of our questions answered.

We visit Kay's quite frequently and are always pleasantly greeted by Mercedes, Catia or Harold. Lisa, too, when she's there. The menu is varied so you'll never get tired of the selection. The pastries are quite delicious and consist of a lot of chocolate. Sorry guys. We're outnumbered on this one. This really is a great place to connect with... More

Kay's not only has good food at reasonable prices, the owners always make you feel right at home with their warm hospitality. They also have social get togethers for meet and greets that are a great way to meet other Expats and learn more about the do's and don'ts of Costa Rica, as well as learning about CR adventures.

My husband and I spent two weeks in Atenas and ate breakfast here several times. If you want to hear English, this is the place to come. Everyone here is friendly and welcoming. Breakfast is very good....amazing Pinto Gallo.

Thank for your kind comments ans sorry about the "cheese toast". This is not a regular menu item for us, and perhaps our cook did not understand just what you were expecting. We always try to do our best for our customers. Hopefully your return trip will be all you expect. More

Description
Kay's Gringo Postres roughly translated means Kay's NorthAmerican Sweets. Kay and her husband, Tom, from South Dakota, started out as a tiny pastry and coffee shop and grew into the only place in Atenas and for miles around that serves real American soul food - heavenly cheeseburgers and crispy fries, several types of grilled cheese sandwiches, BLT's, amazing breakfasts as well as an all you can eat Sunday Brunch buffet. The cakes, cookies and pie are homemade and defy description. It's a gathering place for locals as well as expatriates, They also maintain a lending library with English, German, French and Spanish books.
