Traditional Cretan taverna serving genuine (far from being touristic or folklore) Cretan cuisine. The place is famous among locals. The menu is mainly based on meat dishes although there are a lot of tasty salad choices (really big portions). Meat choices are for real meat eaters who love brutal meat tastes. House wine is below average, drink reasonably! Leave some... More

We walked up from Kalyves and had light refreshments of ice creams and drinks. It's an amazing place to visit full of lots of curious and strange architecture! It's a must see. Next time we visit we will go for lunch as all the meals we saw looked very tasty.

Unfortunately we visited the last week the tavern was open and as such they were only serving drinks. However the owners wife offered us some feta cheese pies with honey which were delicious and the best cheese pies we had in Crete. The competition is fierce as most Cretan cooking is very good. We were lucky enough to eat here... More

This wonderful setting reflects one man's vision and passion. Set aside some time to explore this amazing hilltop location. We visited twice and had pork chops on first visit, lamb chops on second. Both beautifully tasty meals were served with lovely hot chips and salad garnish and bread. Good white house wine helped things along! Complimentary crème caramel and raki... More

A very traditional Greek menu, limited menu but what we had was of very high quality, stewed lamb, rabbit in wine, with a traditional Cretan salad. The setting is unique and is worth a visit as you are unlikely to find anywhere similar. Friendly staff and very good value

We had lunch here part way through a scenic walk. What a place! Unique! Had simple lunch ~ bread, tzatzikï, stuffed vine leaves and local beer. Ideal for a hot day. Worth exploring all the detail and care taken in creating this wonderful spot. Will definitely return! We actually met the old man who created this place as we were... More

Visited here during the day just to look around, amazing eccentric place, well worth the walk up the hill in the heat, had coffees both good. Went back one evening to see it all lit up, was lovely and the views around over the mountains at sunset. Food I thought was good, though some reviewers didn't rate it that much, prices... More

We were second time to visit Koumos. There is so much to see from earlier ages. Different kinds of smaller ande bigger buildings, good service and very kind stuff as everywhere in Kalives.

This is a really interesting, unique and atmospheric restaurant for the building/garden the restaurant is housed in itself, and is worth a visit for this alone. However, everything else was a bit lethargic - the service was pleasant but inexplicably slow considering how empty the place was, and the food was decent but it seemed little effort had gone into...
