We visited the place not at the height of the season. The restaurant was not full. The food was mediocre. Starters are quite good. Unfortunately the lamb and shrimp ribs we ordered were too long on the grill and badly dried. The service was too slow even to the usual. All in all, we were quite disappointed.

After a long day of travelling this Taverna was just perfect for our first meal in Kato Zakros. It was the first Taverna we came to when walking from our accommodation so just went straight in. We both had a great meal Sardines, Sea bass a salad and of course local wine, bliss. The service was very good, we ordered,... More

The place is really nice, food is also ok but the BOSS is a bit too smart and likes to play little Ceasar. Have a good look at the check before paying. By the way the waiters are extremely polite and efficient and deserve a great tip!

Stopped here for lunch on our tour of Eastern Crete. Superb location overlooking the beautiful bay at Kato Zakros right next to the site of the Minoan palace. We had taramasalata and tzatziki for lunch. The tzatziki was really nice but we found the taramasalata rather tasteless and bland.

The place is really convenient really close to the beach. The food is really nice and good quality. I would recommend to go for the meat dishes, was my favorite.

Been there before as the restaurant suits all kinds of occasions, from breakfast to dinner, scoring high judging by the taste, hospitality and promptly served food. Cuisine greek, prepared family style. Waiters friendly and polite -thanks Giorgos and Roza😊.The owner can provide info in four or five languages. Downsize none whatsoever.

We had a couple of meals here, the first was pretty good but nothing special, the second was not good and I'd recommend the other places along the beach, some have tables on the beach itself. This owner has a monopoly on the two sets of rooms above the beach which are really small and there are better options available.... More

Akrogiali is the last seafront taverna you pass on the way to the Minoan palace by car, and it's certainly popular with Greeks and visitors alike: not hard to see why, when you can use their loungers and parasols for free if you're also patronising the restaurant. We ate a simple late lunch after visiting the palace and having a... More

A number of restaurants line the sea shore and they all have good views of the sea. Akrogiali was the choice I made and did not regret it. A wood burning grill was being used for lunch and the smell was delicious. I had "small fish" larger than whitebait but smaller than sardines. The portions are very generous and I... More

AKRO GIALI this name is indeed right for this tavern that abstains only 5 meters from the beach. It is the older tavern in the region of Kato Zakros, the building that was built in 1898 and had the name Maria. In 1991 Nikos Perakis and his wife, Tania, undertook the tavern and since then they offer with love and taste to their customers genuine traditional Cretan and Greek cuisine. They give big importance to the quality and to all the materials that they use, taking into consideration always the local production and chastity. The oil is from the olive trees of Nikos, the vegetables from the farmers of region as well as the meet from cattle-breeders of region.Kato ZakrosAs long as the fresh fish, it is daily provided by the captains Manolis, Giorgos and Kostas that is given to us straight from their caiques. In the summertime you can see celebrations for marriages and christenings or other feasts that take place with traditional live music and dance up to the morning. This way is given the possibility to the visitor to know the hospitality and the customs of our place. Here, next to the sea, you will find us ready to serve you from early in the morning to enjoy your breakfast or coffee and as the day rolls we serve you refreshments or fresh juice and for the older people a cold beer or ouzo with chosen titbits.Kato ZakrosWhile you are enjoying the crystal waters under the boiling hot helium we prepare for you the lunch as you wish escorted with abundant wine of your choice. In the afternoon you can enjoy your ice-cream while you enjoy the immense light of the blue sea and in the dinner the west of helium that is magic.
