My wife and I have eaten at Kampachi restaurants in Singapore and Shanghai. In comparison, this one in Penang was a let down. The Kampachi in Penang is large, but lacks the usual Japanese ambiance. The atmosphere here looks dark, modern and feels cold. Service is poor. After being shown our table, we had to wave to the staff, to get their attention after waiting for more than 5 mins to get served our green tea and for someone to take our order. The tempura set was disappointing. The batter was not the usual light and crispy taste. The batter was Hard and the pawns were quite small in size. The avocado and salmon salad taste was good, but we had to.search for the salmon bits and avocados in the salad bowl. Consider that Kampachi is renowned for being the top end Japanese Restaurant, hence pricey, the service and food quality level at this one was a disappointment.

Captain Roslan suggested Kuwa Sakanashi sake at rm 356 a bottle of 720ml as they did not have stock of 160ml. The sake was nice but with the mediocre selection of sashimi comprising only salmon, tuna and blow fish, the selection did not do justice to the sake. Incidentally the Salmon belly ran out quickly after the buffet started with a per head cover of rm 138. The tempura prawn was good and a suggestion of including sashimi prawn was made. Overall an acceptable visit but without the wider selection of sashimi, best to not waste money on the sake. However for the Penang market and pricing, it is acceptable at best for the selection being served. Oct 18, 2020.

The restaurant was nicely renovated a year ago, but I missed my monthly visits during the long closure, and of course again during the lockdowns. The extensive variety of offerings is such that it's not possible to sample every dish on every visit. I especially enjoy the selection of sashimi that includes octopus, tuna, and butterfish. There's always a wide variety of sushi as well. Other favorites include the freshly made shrimp and vegetable tempura. The seafood also includes salmon, tilapia, and mackerel hot dishes. They make a delicious beef stew that sometimes alternates with a beef curry. The teriyaki chicken is another favorite. The variety of desserts is smaller than in the past, and with individual portions because of pandemic requirements, but those include pastries, tiramisu, fresh fruit, and teppanyaki ice cream. Service is at times uneven; I had to ask for refills of green tea, but the used plates were cleared promptly. For the quality and quantity of food, it's reasonable value, and the parking fee in the hotel garage is deducted from the final bill. All in all, I'll continue to look forward to my monthly visits there.

We told the service staff that we would like to try some OMAKASE and we are surprise that their head chef proceed to us and talk to us regarding to the omakase we request. We just told him we love authentic Japanese Food. And we are surprised that the chef manage to plan our omakase menu in 2 minutes and make it as 7 course kaiseki style dinner. He also suggest to us that the food are good to pair with their boutique sake. Hence, we take his recommendation to try on their cloudy sake. He also teach us how to pair the sake with the food while he explain each and every dish he serve us. It do WOW us. My wife and I love the food, the environment and of course Chef Kenji as he present his name card while he greet us upon our request on the omakase. We surely will come back again. Thank you for the good dining memory. Arigato gozaimasu...

We liked the Japanese buffet on Sunday, the rest of the day is on ala carte. Friendly and helpful staffs. During CMCO, every station has waiter/chef to help you taking the food, complete with their mask and gloves. The special thing is Grill Beef, chef will cook it as you like. Tempura: prawn and mix vegetables. Another station are sushi sashimi, fried fish and odeng, sukiyaki, chawan mushi, dessert etc. Nice ambience, tasty food too. Recommended!

I had went there a few times now for Sunday lunch buffet on special occasions, also would suggest alot of my friends, colleagues to dine here in the hotel. Friendly service. I like how the staffs always looked happy and welcome you in. The other reason I'm there for the sashimi, because it's QUALITY food! One of the best Japanese restaurant. I been there a lot of times for weekend Buffet. The price is reasonable, but the quality is worth for the price. Quality sashimi, sushi, grill, fried and desserts. Choices of drinks are usually limited: green tea, mint water, and apple juice are the drinks I usually found there. Nice ambience for a small group or family. As for the parking, you need to pay for it upfront, and the restaurant will rebate it for you. Reservation is recommended. Sometimes the restaurant can be fully seated. Overall, everything is good and the customer service is excellent. Loved It! I've tried the chain of Kampachi restaurants in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, and Johor Bahru and the one in Penang did not disappoint. Food and service quality is consistent.

Had a nice yet traditional Japanese food with family. Tried their flying fish sashimi, the presentation was WOW and the fish was so fresh and sweet. The head chef told us that the fish was air flown directly from Toyosu Market every week. My family really enjoy the dinner and would recommend this restaurant to all my friends. A good place to carve for some fresh seasonal items. Thumbs up!👍👍

Went there last month on our anniversary with my boyfriend. Ambience was lovely and the food was fresh and scrumptious! We booked in saying that is our anniversary and they are kind enough to even give us free dessert! That made our night! Customer service was top notch from the beginning till the end. Felt very welcomed and staffs are always checking on us if the food is ok or if we needed any drinks or alcohol to go with. All in all, everything is beyond our expectations and we had an amazing night. Highly recommended by a very satisfy customer! THANK YOU!!!!

Newly renovated. Went with friends. Mid week a la carte. Friendly helpful staff who were waiting for us outside and knew exactly who we were based on our reservation. Every dish ordered was very tasty. Great Japanese food. Arigato to the chefs. Weekends have buffets so will be back to try this out. Along with our other favourite The View at Equitorial, would highly recommend this restaurant.

We decided to go to Kampachi for our annual gathering with friends as the restaurant just reopened after renovations. The restaurant was tastefully decorated. Most importantly the new menu was great. It offered a wide variety of options from bento to sashimi. The portion was generous too. Our tummies were definitely satisfied that day. The waiters were attentive and excellent in service. As we had young kids, they took notice to serve you and help with them. They even helped us set up a birthday surprise for our friend. Kampachi has definitely became one of our favourite gathering joints.

Food was limited and not many choices for a buffet but that was fine. What I expected is that they ensure all their patrons wear mask while walking around to take their food.. But so many people were walking around with no mask and none of the staff told them off. We come there to eat and we expect that everyone should be worried during pandemic and yes we do go out but we want to to know that the staff r doing everything to ensure we r save and that includes telling people off when they don't wear their mask to walk around to take food.

I had the Kampachi bento. A little pricey but well worth the price with its assorted seafood. Fresh sashimi. Big portion and overall the meal was delicious. Spotted a hidden mickey in the vegetables takiawase as well. 😂
