Gillis is one of our favorite restaurants in all of Israel. We actually make trips around going there when we're visiting Israel. A few times we slept overnight at the airbnb rentals in Nov so we could make a night of it with the whole...family and walk home to light a small bonfire and sing songs in the crisp night. There is something special and truly unique in the simplicity of Gillis. It's not trying to be anything more than a great steakhouse. As a family owned and multi generational business, they offer a warm welcome and attentive service but they're in no rush to push you out the door. They're happy to let you linger and schmooze and will of course come by the table to visit. Everything is so fresh. The salad ingredients are picked fresh that morning, the savory main course (don't come if you're a vegetarian) is cooked to perfection and freshly made dessert to top it off. There's always something beyond delectable that appears at your table just to taste like a tender beef rib that was slow cooked all day. We're never disappointed!More

Probably the best meat in the country - no exaggeration. But that’s only part of it: it feels like what it is - a family business built on passion for what they do, and a deep sense of hospitality. Really a gem. We were lucky...to have a wine with Galit, who made us feel at home. Can’t wait to go back.More

This family offer meat that they are growing. Very tasty and well prepared. We took the tasting menu. 4-5 types of meat, all well prepared. The portions are a bit small, which is ok for tasting menu, but can be too small if offered as...a dish. Cost is a bit high. Service is very friendly.More

No words! Meat experience and hospitality like no other. For 10 years in a row, we've been with them every winter. The most delicious steaks there are. Owner Reuben, his wife, his father and all the waitresses are constantly around the diners and make sure...that nothing is missing. No one goes hungry.More

We arrived to the place with the understanding that the place specializes in meat. but! The burger was average, and not more. A steak we had barely eaten, I'd be ashamed to serve it. Expensive and not worth the money.

Gillis is only open Thursday nights. We were a couple and without wine our bill came to 450NIS (including tip), so be prepared. We ordered one entrecote and a medley of meats. Service was excellent and even the desert was amazing. If you are a...meat lover you need to add this place to your bucket list.More

The managers of the place are courteous and pleasant. Give each guest the feeling that he is the most desirable. Are interested and know how to indulge far beyond what was commissioned. Culinary experience... culture of farmers.

We had never heard of this place, but my husband somehow found out about it and we decided it would be a good end of vacation stop to make before going home. We arrived early and went first to the Gillis Farms butcher shop and...chose the meat we wanted to buy to take home. I have been living in Israel for seven years and had not had "skirt steak" since before I made aliyah. I had not found it here in Israel. Well, when I asked Re-uvain, the proprietor/butcher if he had that cut the answer was "yes" and I was ecstatic. Along with skirt steak we purchased onglet, entrecote, marrow bones, and knee bones. The meat was put into one of our insulated coolers with an icepack and stored in their freezer. We then went to the restaurant -- same building, just around the corner. The place is very large, open, airy. Large solid wooden tables sit throughout, high ceilings add to the open feeling. The kitchen is also open and exposed to the restaurant. There is no separation there, save for a large gleaming stainless steel counter. The place combines an industrial look with a homey look -- successfully. This IS a family restaurant. After perusing the menu we decided to take a chance on the tasting menu. "Take a chance" because we'd had a bad experience with a tasting menu in another meat restaurant, which shall remain unnamed for now. It was a good chance to take. For starters we were given pitot with an assortment of salatim and with those included hummous with scrumptious hot marrow, and grilled eggplant with ground beef and techina. We'd ordered a nice red wine with the meal. The service was excellent and the owner, the aforementioned Re-uvain, would periodically come over and top off our glasses. We were also offered "refills" on the eggplant dish - - which we refused knowing more food was coming. But they also provided us with fried potatoes. No, not "french fries". These were wedge shaped chunks of potatoes, skin on, possibly roasted, not fried, but crispy and tasty. And they kept refilling the bowl until we said "no more". For the tasting menu we had: hamburger -- and this was the tastiest hamburger I had ever had, served on its own, not in a bun, not with sandwich fixings. We had entrecote. We had pargit. And another cut which name is escaping me, a thin slice of meat, dressed with chimichurri, rolled up and place on a small skewer. All this meat was cooked to perfection. I had asked for my meat to be cooked "black and blue" -- and for those of you who do not know what that means -- it means well cooked on the outside and still bloody on the inside (as bloody as kosher meat can be). This was the FIRST restaurant in Israel that I have gone to in which they knew what that meant. They know their meat!! We were also each offered a slice of hot roast beef -- a server went around to each table carrying a large platter with a huge hot roast beef on it, and he carved a thin slice of it for each diner. It was soft like butter and absolutely delicious. At the end of the meal we were each given a frozen chocolate "something" on a cinnamon stick. It, too, was tasty, just the right amount of sweetness, and not a HUGE dessert. We detest overly sweet desserts and large portion desserts. Gillis was a big hit with us and we shall return! NOTE: this restaurant is only open one night a week -- Thursday nights. Seating begins at 5:30 PM.More

Everyone was so nice and friendly. The food was out...of this world!!!! At the end reuven brought us out to the field to meet Avraham his cow. It was definitely an experience and the tastiest food!!! We will definitely head back up north and plan our trip to be there for a Thursday.More

The Gillis family are Old school cowboys. They grow the cattle themselves, butcher it and sell it. Once a week, only on Thursday nights, they open there temple of meat to guests and prepare and serve it. It's an unparalleled experience. Even though you get...a check at the end and pay, the feeling is that your are in invited guest, the food is superb, centered around the beef that they raise themselves with interesting conversation as an appetizer. Definitely worth the drive, price and time.More
