Nan Bei Dumpling Shop was another friendly efficient restaurant specializing in dumplings. Locals were constantly coming in and out to pick up dumplings during our half hour in there. We also had mapo tofu and pork liver noodles which were excellent.

This place was packed with local families having their big Sunday dinner. That's about as good a recommendation as you can get.
It didn't take long to see why it was so popular. Food was fast, inexpensive and delicious. Steamed and boiled dumplings are the speciality, and were predictably good (we preferred the boiled). But unexpectedly, they also had an unusually good menu of fried dishes, and many of these were northern or Sichuan style. These were all very good, though of a somewhat lighter taste than the real thing, and especially light on the chili - I don't think the Sichuan dishes had any chili at all, which isn't exactly authentic Sichuan, but still very tasty for what it was.
Price for two servings of dumplings, rice, three dishes and drinks stayed under 600 NTD. Extremely reasonable for very good food. Would certainly go back!

We came for lunch and found the food to be average. The prices were cheap and the staff were very helpful and eager to please. Good for a quick simple lunch.
