We were going to the most famous Banyan Tree Thick rice noodle, but it’s already a long waiting line. Thus we came here instead. We ordered their famous dish, both dried & soup thick rice noodle with several side dishes & vegetables along with some traditional drinks. Frankly speaking, we were very pleased and thought all dishes were yummy. Somehow, the business is not that good as their key competitor 100 meters away. Definitely a good choice, at least an alternative place to have delicious Taiwanese thick rice noodle.

The shop appears to have a long history of serving thick rice noodles, going by the number of photographs with famous personalities and awards that it had won. Thick rice noodles are indeed a known specialty dish in Taitung, and so good to visit this restaurant with a history of serving up good food in this beautiful city. Do try the thick rice noodles (mee tai muk) along with the young bamboo shoots. The noodles have a nice texture and it goes well with the bamboo shoots as a side dish. We liked the ambience of the restaurant as well given that there were more than enough seats and the staff were generally pleasant.

These noodles were so tasty, finished my bowl before i even knew it. And the food comes very cheap as well. Efficient service. Would definitely recommended trying the thick rice noodles.

Lao dong tai has recently moved to a new location on Datong Road (two blocks over from their old location on Zhengqi Road). The menu is easy to navigate - you check what you want on a menu and hand it to the cashier, and they do have menus with pictures if you ask. The rice noodles are good, freshly made and served in a light stock, topped with smoky bonito flakes. They also have a wheat noodles with pork, but the menu doesn't stray too far beyond a few specialties that they do very well. The side dishes are especially nice - all simple but fresh and well prepared.

Thick Rice Noodles are very common in Taitung. Lao Dong Tai is not recommended. Vistors could ask local people for better choices

The hostel owner introduced this restaurant because of the history and delicious food. The noodles were made from rice. The texture and taste were extraordinary. You can experience the freshness of the soup and the CP ratio was very high. Each noodle costs TWD 40, which was so inexpensive. This was a stunning restaurant in Taitung, so you should try it.

Lao dong tai rice noodle moved to a new place nearby. It was a bit disappointed.they did a very nice renovation, however, the food quality gone bad. I hope it could be improved like before. They noodle I ordered seems not fully cooked. I hope Lao dong tai can focus on the food quality more.
