Visited this restaurant for the third time in three years and this has to be one of the best when lobsters are ordered here. They are cooked to perfection and with the lime mayonnaise to compliment them is absolutely the best. The menu has tastes...More

We stayed in Strete for a few days. The restaurant was a short stroll from where we were staying. There was a very good choice of food on offer and local produce used. Homemade breads were so good. Well done Chef!!! The staff were very...More

It looked like this restaurant was popular with local people, you would not find it unless you were recommended or, like us, found it on TripAdvisor, it is deep in the countryside outside Dartmouth. I found the pew uncomfortably high to sit on and had...More

We went on recommendation from friends. It really is a lovely quirky restaurant( originally an old school) with a great atmosphere. They have a very good menu and the standard of food is excellent. Can really recommend the Goats Cheese Crete Brûlée and their excellent...More

The food here is excellent, especially the fish: notably the mixed grill. The wine is well chosen. It is difficult to imagine that it has any serious rivals in this part of the country. Genuine sophistication. The service matches the offering. The atmosphere does not...More

We visited The Laughing Monk with anticipation as most reviews were generally excellent. The village a Strete where the restaurant is located is quite small and parking restricted. That said we found a space down the street easily enough. The restaurant is located in the...More

Another fantastic meal at the Monk. The imaginative and beautifully presented food is undoubtedly the best in the area. Service, as ever, outstanding. Lovely evening, thanks to all the team. Stuart

I think I was expecting more from The Laughing Monk after finding it in the Michelin Guide. The staff were extremely friendly although none of them seemed to know what the other was doing. The tapas seafood started was ok but lacked seasoning and flavour...More

They may well accommodate children, but it's not my idea of a family restaurant. It is very adult and sophisticated (I think almost pretentious). The menu is also not child oriented at all (although they might accommodate... More

Hi, as far as I can remember, and looking at photos on the internet, there is a ramp up to the front door. The website Eating In Devon says the restaurant is wheelchair friendly. Hope this helps.

Family owned restaurant, relaxed atmosphere, serving the best local produce available. We are not a fine dinning restaurant but serving great food is our passion
