We arranged to meet another couple for lunch and we're not disappointed by the service or the food. Those who had starters thought they were excellant and full of flavour. We were also very impressed by the mains with a generous portion of meat and plenty of vegetables. A very good meal was had by all so thank you to... More

The rain came down but it didnt dampen the atmosphere in this warm and welcoming traditional pub with a wonderful restaurant and fine dining area. Each course was served to delight the tastebuds and the eye. The service was perfect in every way. Friendly attentive and in the background. Although the last table standing we were not hurried or rushed.... More

This is the 3rd time we have visited the gate for a pub meal and again not the best. We ordered a starter first and two main meals. The waitress brought out our main meals first I asked where our starter was the reply oh so sorry I will get it now. Obviously our main meals were put in the... More

Chose this place last minute for a birthday celebration. Called at lunch time and asked for a table at 7:30 and was told they only have 7:15. That was fine, but when we turned up they weren't busy at all. There was only 2 tables of 4 people sat down. Took a while to be served, but the waitress was... More

We had a great time at the Gate's Gin Tasting Evening. The range of gins was excellent and the accompanying meal was probably the best we have had at this premises and trust me that's a lot! In short, food, service and drink, all excellent! Well done everyone.

We were a large party of family and friends celebrating Mum's 90th birthday at the Gate this afternoon and had a wonderful time. Everyone was so impressed by the surroundings and by the excellent quality of the buffet. Alea and her staff were so helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble and we could not have asked for more.... More

Amazing food! At road side you would not have a clue at how delicious and well crafted food is available. Very far from the expected pub grub. I had the special of gnocchi with a tomato and olive sauce, a large filling plateful serving. The dessert was very small but dainty eaton mess, again fantastic and full of flavour despite... More

Promised to visit as quite fancied it after a summer scarecrow fate and eventually made it. Staff both at tables and bar helpful, friendly and excellent. Beer was great ( had a Clwyd real ale and an American ale both excellent). For food had a tasty braised beef dish and partner had gourmet burger which we both enjoyed followed by... More

Description
There has been an Inn/Pub/Hostelry on this site since the 16th Century. It was closed for two years before the current proprietors took it over and refurbished it ready for opening in mid-October 2012. It is privately owned and operated and is not part of a chain. It has a 150 seat restaurant divided into a number of areas and rooms, from a small cosy private dining room ("The Gate Room") to a room which can comfortably sit a function for 50 diners. The Bar area has ground floor access with no steps and there is a wheel-chair ramp outside for access to the restaurant. There is a disabled toilet in the bar area. There is a car park with up to 48 bays. The restaurant style is 'bright and roomy' and not cluttered. Dogs are welcomed in the BAR area - but not in the restaurant. There is out-door seating for up to 40 people.
