Rice, lasagna and fresh pasta, havana assortment, the slices of lamb with mustard and honey, leg of lamb chops, the malangon shrimp and octopus carpaccio and fish are some of the recommendations often held for the authenticity of the recipes and spectacular preparation, but customers can find in letters a range of proposals.

I was amazed at the seamless blending of old and new cultures and culinary ideas at El Gijones! It may be the best dining in all of Havana! My phone is out of power or I would post pics of the food the folks and the views! C'mon over! You'll be happy you did!

We only found this restaurant during our wondering in Havana and was a good decision to sit down and eat here - now I review the 2nd floor restaurant. The place is really nice, the service also, the cocktail, too - the meal was beautiful. It is pricey a little, but if you on a holiday, you could spend a little more. Next us there was a flamenco dancing lesson - it was like an entertainment during our dinner :)

I’ve eaten at El Gijones twice. Both times the food was delicious. The staff were helpful and the decor is smart. There was no music so you can here your friends talk and there never seems to be too many customers. It is fairly expensive by Cuban standards.
The restaurant is up a flight of stairs and around a corner, so you may need to ask for directions.
The cafe on the ground floor is quite good for a cheap and cheerful lunch.

Our travel group of about 15 enjoyed a wonderful meal here in this second-floor restaurant overlooking all the interesting nightlife along Paseo de Marti. Friendly service, good food, and right in the heart of a wonderful city.

We ate dinner at this second floor restaurant and were bitterly disappointed.
After ordering the local Cristal beer (it comes in cans, doesn't need any preparation other than bringing the can) and 35 minutes later we had not received them.
We then noticed that the lady on the table next to us was telling her family not to eat the chicken on their plates as it was raw. She didn't complain or send it back though.
We were about to walk out when the beers finally arrived after 40 minutes, so we stayed and decided to give it a shot.
We both had the garlic octopus starter, which was tasty.
Unlike another reviewers experiences, our main dish portion sizes were small and they did not come with rice or potatoes. The rice etc. is a side dish that you have to purchase separately.
I had the grilled lobster, which was delicious, but my partner had the roast pork. It was so dry it was difficult to cut. He was shaking the whole table just trying to get his knife through it.
We had decided to share a rice when we ordered as we weren't that hungry, but the food came out around 75 minutes after we ordered, but which point we were famished! It wasn't enough food at all.
The service was terrible, very VERY slow. After we finished eating, we sat at our table with dirty dishes in front of us for another 30 minutes! In the end we were so fed up we had to go and ask the waiter for the bill so we could get out of there.
The bill came to over 60CUCs and we felt we had very little for that amount, we had plenty of far far better meals elsewhere for much less money. in fact, this was the only meal in our whole stay in Cuba that we were disappointed with. All of the other lunches and dinners we had were excellent. There are some great places to eat if you look for them, especially those recommended by the Lonely Planet guide book (eating at this place was the only time we went somewhere that wasn't recommended by the book, we stuck to the book after this!).
We had such a bad experience that I came onto TripAdvisor to see if the certificate of excellence they were displaying was faked, looks like a lot of customers have a good experience there so perhaps we caught them on a bad night. It did seem that they were very understaffed.

Came here for a late night dinner our first night in Havana and loved it. Fantastic service, great food, very affordable! 2 days later we came back again hoping for brunch but learned they only do lunch and dinner (they are open noon-midnight).
It is on the second level so go up the spiral stairs and you'll find it on the left.

This is on the second floor of a building on Prado - make sure you go to the second, not third floor. It was recommended by our casa as an economical option, actually it's not cheap (main courses CUC15 and up) but the food was excellent, service very good and portions huge. All meals are served with rice, beans and sweet potatoes.

I love this place it is in the Old American Club with carved state seals and elegant wood paneling. Great service and very good food at a reasonable price.

Just around the corner from the parque central hotel, on the 1st floor just before the atm machines heading towards the sea. Good honest Cuban food at a very reasonable price. All cocktails about €2 . I had the garlic prawns in sauce and they were just delicious. Well worth a visit.

The food here is very good especially the Ropa Vieja.
The prices are very reasonable. But the service could use some improvement.
The staff could be more attentive to the guest, I've been here multiple times and the are often more concerned with speaking among themselves.
Ernesto is hands down the best waiter I the evenings, and Yasmani makes delicious drinks!

We enjoyed our dinner at Gijones while we were in Havana. It was across the street from our hotel (in historic Havana) and recommended by our doorman when we asked about restaurants with Cuban food.
The portions were large. The Beef Vieja was delicious and we had sautéed vegetables with it. Everything was very tasty, service was attentive and it was a wonderful evening overall! This restaurant is on the second floor, there is a barbeque restaurant in the rooftop.

This place is hidden up on a rokftop. Had to ask how to get in as you enter through a lift from the shop below. Amazing food at a great price. Lamb dish was big enough for a family of 4 !

When in Havana, I eat here 3 or more times a week - mostly for lunch as it's the same menu for lunch and dinner. The Gijones is actually on the middle floor (some of the people reviewing it seem to be confused with the Terraza on the top floor which is much more expensive). The portions are very generous so don't over-order or get them to put any leftovers in a take-away container if you're staying in a casa particular. I recommend the Grillada Mixta the contents of which vary according to what's available but usually it's lobster, prawns, fish and octopus which at 7.95CUC is an absolute bargain with 2 sides included. Cocktails are cheap and good 2cuc. Service is friendly and reasonably competent though extremely slow due in part to the kitchen being quite far away from the actual restaurant and in part because serving staff have no experience of what good service is in Europe, Canada and the States. Lunch or dinner for 2 shouldn't set you back more than 30cuc. I definitely recommend it if you are not in a hurry and can be flexible with what you want to order.
