Its a cozy place.. semi high end. The service is impeccable. We were group of 10 on a weekend which is tough enough, but they accommodated us cheerfully. Food was to die for. Best Fillet Mignon and Lamb chops... Period! Appetizers were 7/10. More

Based on TA reviews, my husband and I made reservations far in advance. After our cab dropped us off, we were seated at a small table and sandwiched between two tables of locals who were familiar with the restaurant and made an effort to make friendly conversation with us as the evening progressed. This friendliness truly enhanced our evening. Of... More

Puertorrican Gourmet anyone? This is the place. After you walk around Santurce and have taste of the Spanish rooted traditions of the Island at La Placita (Marker Square) , you will find Chef Santaella at his restaurant, offering the taste of the future. His menu is based on Grandma's recipes, reinterpreted to reach the level of International 'haute cuisine'. There... More

Was there May 9 ;17, and not impressed. Had shrimp in creamy garlic, shrimp no better than something that a 15 year old could have whipped up with some flour, butter, garlic, cream and a wisk. Nutella dessert several steps below a pastry I could pick up at Starbuck's. Wife's dinner kind of in the same league so why bother... More

I brought a group of clients to Santaella on a Tuesday night. Nothing was less than perfect. I suggest you make a reservation and be ready to eat a lot. The service is friendly and fun. The owner/chef happens to be singing for a party that was there. That was a real treat. The restaurant is modern and trendy, in... More

This is an five star place all the time... their unique main dish and starters are great. Make sure you make reservation because you might not be allowed to enter.

From the outside it doesn't' say much from the outside. But once you're inside, the ambience feels like fine dining without the suit and tie. It's an expensive restaurant, but the experience is well worth it. Everything is good here, the appetizers, the entrees, drinks are outstanding. I would classify it as an special occasion restaurant.

My girlfriend and I went to Santaella on a Thursday night. Luckily we had made a reservation for 9pm because it was PACKED when we got there and they weren't seating non-reservation tables until after 10:30 pm. We got a quiet seat in the back, which was nice because it was very loud in the restaurant. We ordered appetizers, drinks,... More

Chef José Santaella has trained with some of the best chefs in the world, including Ferrán Adriá, Eric Ripert, and Gary Danko. His apprenticeships and successful catering career paved the way for Santaella, his signature restaurant in Santurce's La Placita Marketplace. The decor is rustic yet elegant, with exposed walls, Edison light fixtures, an interior garden, and a sparkling bar. Chef Santaella fuses local and international ingredients to perfectly execute Puerto Rican nouvelle cuisine. The menu is dominated by tapas, which you can easily make into a meal. Favorites include the ahi tuna skewers, goat cheese quesadilla, 'alcapurrias' topped with crab, and foie gras terrine with fruit jelly . The cocktail bar is one of the best on the island, so don't leave without trying one of the concoctions by Santaella's mixologists. -Fodors
