Was hesitant to go back, but really glad we did!

On our first trip to Great Exuma (almost a decade ago) we tried Big D's as it was convenient to where we were staying and was not impressed. I'm sure you can find my review from way back when....that said, we were back down for our 5th trip and decided to give it another shot and am really glad we did!! We liked it so much we went back for a second meal! The service was great (full disclosure, we got there pretty late on our first trip and the place was packed so it did take a good while to get our food...everything is slower in the Bahamas as they say), but once the food arrived it was worth the wait! Lobster, shrimp, conch, grouper, everything was fantastic! When deciding where to go later in the week, we decided to head back over, all be it a bit earlier, and food came out fast and just as good as the 1st night! I'm a believer in second chances now!!

A resident of the island Ms. Mavis took us to a number of spots on the island and Big D's by far exceeded our expectations. The conch salad was extraordinary and I've had my share of it. The restaurant is snack on the beach with inside and out side dinning which I would have it no other way than to eat outside with the wind in my face the soft music playing and watching the turquoise water soak to me. Bid D also took time to come over and speak to each patron, definitely a great host! ***** all- the-way.

Great little spot on the beach

Met Big D and his family and Aaron at the restaruant. Service was great and everyone there treats you like family. The view of the ocean from the lanai is spectacular and the food is simple, fresh and delicious. Many resturants can learn from the example Big D's sets from quality of the food and drink to the outstanding service.

Adequate service at best. We had planned to visit this restaurant during our trip on the island, and decided to stop here after some time at Coco Plum Beach. Luckily they were open on a Sunday afternoon. It was not yet too crowded when we arrived. It took a while to seat us although the owner/manager greeted us immediately upon arrival. After greeting us, he seemed to have some words for the waitress who ended up being our server for the day. Once we were seated it took maybe 10 to 15 minutes longer to get our menus although the manager yelled over from the bar that our server would be with us soon. When the waitress came with our menus we ordered our drinks and those came fairly quickly. The waitress had an awkward way about her at best. What I mean is that certain behaviors did not seem like they were fit for the service industry. This included walking away while we were still giving our meal order, as well as yelling over at our table from the bar when we were done eating if we were ready for the check. The food here was decent. We tried the conch basket (tasty) as well as the snapper plate and the hamburger (the latter 2 were both alright). Lastly, I should mention that it seemed like the owner/manager was doing a good job entertaining a few larger tables of individuals, however he never stopped in to check with us about our meals or to see how things were going.

So delicious, we ate here twice!

We were greeted by Big D himself. Obviously a fun loving guy! We were here over Thanksgiving and ended up having our Thanksgiving dinner here after we'd had an excellent lunch a day of so before. You absolutely can not beat the view. It alone is worth the stop. He has a beautiful beach and chairs outside so you can enjoy a hammock or chair and a beer and watch the beautiful water. Unfortunately, we did not get to try the famous conch salad as he was out both times. Means we just have to go back. We had lunch here after a day of beach hopping and it was so relaxing and lovely we returned for Thanksgiving. He had several "traditional" Thanksgiving dishes and several with a Bahamian flair. This island loves its macaroni and cheese, and so do we. We were a family of four adults and a 14 and 9 year old. The 14 year old will eat anything and did. The 9 year old is picky and still managed to find something delicious. The favorite of two of us was the shrimp plate. They both ordered it both times. Leisurely service allows you to relax and enjoy the view. We didn't see the place late at night, but I bet its busy and fun.

Great food and service, concern over gratuity charge

We loved the food here, it was great! We got the snapper fingers, fish burger, and lobster wrap and a couple drinks and they were delicious! We loved the Big Do’s Special cocktail! Big D is so friendly and our waitress was amazing! The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because there is a 15% gratuity charge included - we were actually charged 20% and that was fine - but then the waitress said the tip isn’t included in the gratuity charge. We were also charged 10% for tax so it was not that. The food was already pricey and the definition of gratuity is a tip for service, so we did not add an additional tip. In hindsight, I wish we had questioned what exactly the gratuity charge would be going towards. It bothered us and made us feel like she was trying to get more money out of us, but besides that everything was great!!

The worst experience I've ever had

I pick this place to celebrate my 60th birthday and it my biggest mistake. First to ask the server to take the order for drink after 45 mins setting down at the table.. After the server took the food order it took an hour to be served the appetizer at the table. And then it took another hour before main course was served after asking the server how it would take that's when drama start the server pissed off refused to answer or the chef how long would be before received the dinner. The food half cooked and the dessert was microwave. Let's put it this way we got to the restaurant at 6 - 7pm and the service was complete around 11:30pm. Bill was over $500, we spoke to the owner nice guy but he totally worthless, and offer free drink if we came by again. That I'll ever take him up I mean ever.

The BEST Conch Salad in Exuma!

Big D's Conch Spot is an absolute must visit in Great Exuma! We sampled a variety of different Conch spots around the island, and this was by far the best. Amazing service, delicious food and cocktails, and an absolutely beautiful waterfront location. The tropical Conch Salad and Conch Fritters were our favourite.

Mediocre at Best

The beach is nice but all the beaches in Exuma are pretty terrific, the restaurant is cute, and the frozen drinks were good. Our service was okay, nothing special. There was only 1 other table of 4 people there when we arrived and 2 other tables showed up sometime later and the service was very slow for all of us. We had to stay so long that we were a little late getting to Coco Plum Beach for low tide. Flies were terrible but our waiter did bring candles to help. We stopped by for lunch on a Thursday. We ordered a variety of food and it was all okay. Lots of fried items on the menu. I ordered coconut shrimp and didn't care for it at all, including the sauce. It tasted like my shrimp had already been boiled - maybe for cocktail - and then breaded and fried. Very dry and tough. Breading was bland. Fries tasted like old oil. They were out of several items, including conch salad. We are a family of 5 and a tip was already included on our bill. I thought tips were an optional reward for good service, not included in the price. Would not return.

Amazing service, food and views

By far the best service we have had on the island. We had their famous Conch salad, cracked Conch and Shrimp dinner. The shri o dinner was good (only had 5 shrimp) but the Conch dishes were out favorites. The drinks were terrific as were the views from the deck.

Gorgeous Location! Amazing Conch!

We walked from Paradise Bay Resort along the beach to Big D's. We ate on a picnic table in the sand. The conch fritters were amazing (along with the blackened conch and cracked conch).

Great view, terrible service, and suspect food.

We waited two hours for a pair of lobster wraps. They had some deep fried chicken inside, but couldnt find any lobster. Not recomending. Service staff has an I dont care attitude, and I am comfortable with "island time"

Cash only but great service & food!

I would have given a 5 star rating if they took anything other than cash. Even so, we're really glad we stopped here. I had the cracked conch which was delicious, and the best goombay smash with floater I've had yet on this island (actually 2). Definitely recommend!

Family and I went to Big D's for dinner last Monday. Owner approached us when we walked up. Were told we needed a reservation. Asked if we could get a drink at the bar. He let us know that would be fine. Not noticing my son approached the owner. He had to pay the owner $50 in order for us to be seated. There were maybe 10 customers at the time. We ait our meal and will never go back. We dinned at 4 more restaurants and were never faced with this situation.

Great spot on the beach for a cold one and some food.

Enjoyed out dinner at Big D's, the food is great, the beer is cold. Have your food and enjoy the beach. Take a short walk to bulldozer reef (google that), funny story behind that.
