Delicious, but a bit of a tourist trap

My fiancé and I ordered the chili wings to start which were amazing! We both had beers and I had a very strong Bahama Mama. I had the coconut grouper which was excellent, but pricey. My fiancé had the cracked conch and loved it. The food was good, but I got the sense that this place catered to tourists mainly. Local Bahamians were at all the other fish fry shacks surrounding it, which appeared to be serving much the same food at lower prices. Shirley’s also had things like pizza, French fries, etc which seemed less authentic and more catered to Americans. Overall it was delicious, but the other fish fry shacks might be a better bet for an authentic fish fry experience.

So good that we came back the next night for dinner. Sharon was sweet, funny and friendly, entire staff was great. We sat outside and the winds started to pick up and Sharon tells us that it’s time to dine inside because it’ll rain soon and sure enough it started pouring. We ordered grilled lobster, grilled seafood platter, jerk wings, conch fritters, sweet n chili chicken curry and my hubby ordered a cheese pizza (random) but he enjoyed it. Will definitely return and so close to our hotel Augusta Bay- took us a few minutes to walk there.

Great Service; Great Food

After having four dinners in Georgetown that had horrible service (EYC, P&P), we finally went to Shirley’s. What a difference! The staff is so nice and they hustle to make sure you have a great experience. We went on a Saturday evening and had to wait for about 20 min, but the bartender made good drinks and it was a relaxed environment. What I loved is that the server saw that we were on the list behind two large groups, so she took our order while we were waiting. What a concept! And, the food was great. My wife got the grilled snapper, while I got the curried conch. It was so nice having an authentic Bahamian meal with a staff that cares.

Highly overrated!!

This is the only place on the island that seems to be open past 9pm. Might be good for drinks and atmosphere, but the food is lacking. The lobster tail was tough and over seasoned, the Mac and cheese wasn’t great even by Bahamian standards. Was hoping for so much more!!

We ate here because it was number 1 on trip adviser and we truly don’t know how. I had a burger and my fiancé had fish. The fish was completely gross and the burger wasn’t worth eating. We read good reviews about the Mac and cheese but we thought it was very bland and tasted old. Staff was rude and messed up our simple order. If I could give this 0 stars I would.

Due tue a recommendation we visited this place and got a table without waiting. After a couple of minutes we ordered the drinks and food. After another 45 minutes we kindly asked about the food when the waitress turned into getting rude. This behavior was obviously transferred into another waitress what we felt when we wanted to check. We would not come back to this restaurant with the same rude staff.

Was highly recommended but we were very disappointed. The food was overpriced. The margaritas tasted like triple sec and sugar... horrible. I ordered a fish burger. The actual piece of fish was the size of a chicken nugget. Huge bun. Tiny fish. My husband has a burger that was same... tiny meat. Huge bread. They were out of calamari. Worst place we’ve eaten at during our stay.

Family Dinner on Exuma

Over priced for the small amount of food...$22 50 for a 2 oz oz serving of broiled Grouper. Great flavor and sides but quite disappointed...we had 9 people in our group and this was the consensus with everyone that had the fish. Service was prompt. By comparison...we went to Santana's on the Little Exuma the next day and their Grouper dinner was outstanding !! The view was amazing as well!!

Great food and casual atmosphere

If you go on Friday night, be ready for an especially long wait, even by Caribbean standards! We got a table easy enough but waited about an hour for our food. We were ok with it because we were on vacation and could see how busy they were. We went back on Sunday night for a table in the nearly empty restaurant and had our drinks, apps, and dinner within 30 minutes. The location is off the road and can be missed on the first pass unless your looking at it. But you know you're in the right spot when you see several small restaurant/bars all in one small area with one parking lot. The restaurant is in the Fish Fry area and is full of quick spots to pull up to the bar and have a drink and some snacks. The area is a favorite of the locals. I had the cracked conch both nights (yes it was that good) and had the cole slaw and Bahamian mac-n-cheese. My husband had the curry grouper, and a garlic one. It was all really good. It is a very busy spot. The screen porch out back is lovely.

We heard Shirley's was a MUST on a trip to exuma so we had to make a stop. It ended up being our favorite dinner during our entire stay. I glanced at the menu before we went and fully committed to getting the Margherita pizza. When we were seated, however, nowhere on the menu was pizza. I thought maybe it was an update or that I must have been looking at the wrong Shirley's so we didn't even ask our waitress and picked something else instead. We got the coconut grouper, the sauteed shrimp, the Mac and cheese, fries, fried plantains and cole slaw. Everything was so delicious and I immediately was so happy I didn't ask about the pizza. There was a couple sitting a few tables down from us who did get pizza (so it is there if you don't see it) but the sauteed shrimp and everything else we got was just so so delicious. They also have some sort of honey mustard-ish dip that we basically used on everything and asked for a cup so we could bring it back to our airbnb. Our waitress was so nice and the atmosphere was very cozy. Shirley's was hands down my favorite restaurant we went to and we will definitely be back!

Absolutely the best seafood in Exuma. And the best service!

We ate at Shirley's three times over the course of a week - the food was just too good! The place gets very busy at dinnertime as it's super popular with locals and tourists alke. I have severe food allergies and everyone was incredibly helpful in finding me suitable dishes and made me feel at ease. My two friends, lucky them, could sample pretty much everything on the menu. We just cannot fault the food. Special mention to the plaintains. But it's not just about the food, the service here is absolutely outstanding, even on a friendly island like Exuma. Every single server was not just courteous and friendly, but genuinely treated us as friends. If you are in Exuma, you simply MUST go!

Shirleys is Fantastic

Shirleys was recommended by a guest at our hotel. She told us it was fantastic and she was absolutely right. We had Curried Conch and a Conch burger. They were excellent and I dreamed about having a Conch Burger for the next two days. Absolutely loved it. The second time we went Shirley was at the bar and gave us a big greeting. We sat at the bar and had another Conch Burger and a Conch Pizza - again fantastic. The third time we went (because we think it is the best place in George Town), I had the Garlic Flounder and my husband had the Seafood Pasta - again delicious. Out of five nights in Exumas we ate at Shirleys three time - a testament to how good Shirleys is. LaMont (Shirley's son) even helped us to jump our car when the battery died in the parking lot. Love this place!

We ate at Shirley's our first night in town and wish we would have went back more often. Since it was our first time to the Exumas, we wanted to try all the local restaurants but looking back I can honestly say Shirley's was the best. Our group had the snapper, grouper, conch burger, and cracked conch and all were delicious! Fish Fry on Friday night is also a must!

Amazing staff and this is what makes the place so good. The food is fantastic but the portions aren’t huge for what you pay and because it is such a popular place, you do often have to wait over and hour for your food. We were absolutely starving by the time our food arrived and been there nearly 2 1/2 hours!!!

STAY AWAY.

STAY AWAY- This use to be a great restaurant, but not today. New menu replaced local lobster with frozen tail, delivered with dry, overcooked and with cold veggies and cold potatoes. Appetizer delivered with entree, oops. Rice bowl had some dry seafood, cold veggies and a scoop of cool rice. Ugh. Sadly, when discussing the horrible dinner, the Owner’s son, sadly didn’t seem to care. Shirley, your place was once great, come back and fix it, because IT’S A DISGRACE NOW!
