My wife and I had lunch at The Bell with friends we hadn't seen for many years. It was a beautiful Spring day. The Bell is situated in a stunning setting, a meeting of several valleys. The decor of The Bell was very comfortable and welcoming. I had beef and ale pie followed by lemon posset for lunch. My wife... More

Although good reviews our midweek lunchtime meal was mediocre to say the least. Home made sausage rolls starter, actually one 2 inch sausage roll v dry, seemed to be heated in microwave as edges of meet and pastry v tough, Main meal cod in batter burnt as batter was almost black in places. Not one to complain but it is... More

When trying to book a place for my wife's birthday, I was looking for a place away from our norm of restaurants in the city centre or Cardiff Bay. The Bell at Skenfrith was recommended to me and BOY was I glad that it was. Situated in Skenfrith it's a short drive from Monmouth, which put us just about an... More

We had Sunday lunch here today and all four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal. 3 had the crab starter and 1 the butternut squash soup with tarragon. For mains, 2 lamb, 1 beef and 1 risotto (a huge portion). We all managed desserts too, which were all excellent. The service was good, attentive but not obtrusive. The wine list... More

Managed to book a table the same day. The Bell is a lovely country style pub/restaurant set next to the river. The interior is very warm and inviting, it looks to have had a modern and recent refurbishment but still manages to have a warm and cosy country feel with a large, open fireplace in the bar area. The staff... More

When we called by, sadly the pub was closed for renovation but the staff still opened up and let us in to use the phone and wait in the warm. Very friendly and helpful staff.

It was a recommendation from one of my wife's colleagues. Place itself is in a lovely setting and looks very inviting from the outside, a theme which continues on the inside with its slab floors and log fire giving it a very homely feel. Staff were very welcoming and kindly. Usually, places like this are a little dark inside but... More

We had Sunday lunch in the lovely dining room looking out over the gardens and fields. The menu is more interesting than many at Sunday lunch. The food was excellent as was the service and atmosphere. We had a Saturday lunch here in the summer when you are able to sit outside. On that occasion we had some very fresh... More

Hi all... after coming back from an arduous trek on the SO called 'Sugar Loaf' in the Brecon beeeakens in wales we thought hey what better than a juicy beverage at a fancy pub which is also a hotel which makes it an inn! There were 5 of us... 2 50 something males, 1 beautiful girl and 1 nice girl... More

Had lunch here on a Friday for a special occasion. Drove for 2 hours from West Wales with high expectations. Starter - a wonderful blue cheese brûlée - innovative and interesting - but no pears as per menu, replaced with apple so not quite right. Main course- excellent well cooked hake... But copious capers slung over, not even chopped, loads... More

Dear Julie, I am surprised by your review even though you do credit us with serving you "a wonderful blue cheese brulee" and "excellent well cooked hake". However your comments saying the place "could do with a good clean and some fresh decorating" does make me wonder if you were casting a myopic eye seeking fault. I say this because... More
