If a real ale or a fan of a good pub this is one for you and well worth travelling to visit. The staff are friendly, well informed look after their beers well and it is an Inne which has a long history. Very atmospheric...More

Beer and ale quality is very good. Rather annoying when the staff takes your money then forget to finish and serve your drinks. We visit with friends most weekends and we have all noticed the problem. Seems to function better when Gary is in attendance.More

I am sorry that you think the staff are so ineffective on their own. Some of them are new and we do keep training and pushing them to deliver the best service. Obviously I cannot be there all the time as we are open 90...More

On holiday in area and my hosts are working today. Just having a pint and chilling out.....nice and dark and cool in the 28° heat. Amazing beer selection and also 350 years old so atmospheric also.

A comfortable olde worlde experience with many nooks & crannies so one can hide away if that is what one wants. Pleasant beer garden with sun & shady sections too. We had fresh sandwiches which were served with 'allumettes' and salad. Washed down with draught...More

A great traditional pub, with a good choice of real ale and a warm fire. Friendly staff and a fantastic atmosphere.

This lovely old coaching inn is probably the oldest left in Barnet and I was really looking forward to eating here. There are several rooms which are quite dark with low ceilings, so very atmospheric, although it would be easy to trip down unlit steps....More

True to the building, we are a traditional ale house. We are not set-up as a modern gastro pub able to deal with the walk-in of a large group all wanting main meals. We have a tiny kitchen and everything is cooked to order. We...More

The pub is very cosy and warm due to the open fires and low ceilings. Theres a good atmosphere in the pub and have a good selection of beers (sprinkler/sparklers needed for some beers) friendly staff, what more could you ask for.More

Thank you for your nice comments. I responded before about sparklers: there is a debate about their effectiveness which is why we don't use them. Whilst we will continue not to use them as standard, I am going to buy some and train the staff...More

Not many pubs left like this, they are either refurbed into sterile tosh or crammed in food tables for £20 'gastro' burgers. The Mitre is true to the original 1500s coachhouse and is a real drinking pub with lots of ever changing good beer. Embracing...More

Hi, we are a proper boozer, food is only provided as an extra for those who want it and it comes when it comes, we don't offer restaurant service. We can, however, do a buffet tailored to individual needs. You need to come... More

Description
The oldest coaching inn in Barnet, there has been a pub on this site since 1553. Beams, exposed brickwork, wood panelling and open fires gives an authentic feel. There is also a large, well maintained outside courtyard drinking area. Not a restaurant as such, but a "proper" pub that does some pub food. Specialises in real ale. Several times winner of local CAMRA Branch Pub of the Year.
