Arrived to a very cold welcome. Couldn't find our booking despite having phoned earlier in the day to confirm. We were then ushered to a waiting area rather than going through to table as requested. The service throughout the meal was very rude, when we asked if we could have fruit for dessert because a member of our party had... More

This restaurant had been recommended and we had a 1pm Lunch reservation. On arrival the carpark was almost empty on a Friday Lunch! Strange? Or an indicator of things to come. The bar was empty, was a pattern forming. After waiting a few minutes w decided to explore the deserted waiting area and pensively entered the restaurant to be confronted an... More

I don't often enjoy restaurants as I did this one. The staff were very friendly and the food of a high standard. The artisan bread was excellent. I started with mussels that were also excellent (had to ask for a fingerbowl). My main course wad on the menu as "whole Brill" but it wasn't a whole fish. Nevertheless it was... More

£25 for three little pieces of lamb. One carrot and a blog of mash the size a coin. Asked for it well done. Came back pink. Still very hungry. No milk in my room- no one picking up- can't pay until 9am. Can only have cheese and biscuits for two- not one- non negotiable. Not cool.

Dinner with 11 people.Nice venue and overall good atmosphere. Quality food both for fish and meat. Very good dessert. Only issue to be noted:very long time to start dinner although the restaurant was not particularly crowded and also between starters and main dishes.the owner ackowledged this by discounting the overall bill. Worth a try.

On the way home from an overnight away we were in need of some good seafood to end our weekend. The crab did not disappoint. They had a lovely table for us and not squashed into a gap but room for us to continue our conversation and enjoy the atmosphere. Food was amazing and presented to us by the lovely... More

Although the pub itself is beautiful, my husband and I left feeling cheated. We had prebooked for a table of 10. As we sat to eat we were told there was 1 steak on the menu. Not a fish lover, my husband had no choice but to order the 'colossal prawns'. I do not think 1 large prawn and 1... More

It was hard to fault The Crab at Chieveley when it came to good food, excellent service and a good night out. Now that the venue has changed hands, I cannot say the same. We have eaten on a couple of occasions since the ownership change and can say, although the food has been decent, the service and overall experience... More

It has been some years since I was here last and I had not read the reviews before going this time. I don't know why but I don't recognise the place from the reviews. It is completely different than before, a much classier place with food that it a couple of notches above what it was before. Admittedly it is... More

Description
We're a country pub and all of our menus showcase the best of Britain with plenty of fresh, local produce and dishes that tip their hats to the seasons. Whether you want to indulge in rich local game, fresh-off-the-boat crab or just kick off your wellies and relax with a pint and a scotch egg, here you'll get a true taste of the great British countryside. It's not just our food that we're proud of here, we've also spent time picking the best local ales and award-winning British spirits and wines for behind our bar, alongside some old favourites. From Sipsmith artisan gin to Nyetimber bubbles, make sure to take some time to sample our drinks menu too. We even stock Snuffle dog beer for any canine companions. We are proud to have received 2 Rosettes and 4 Stars for our accommodation by the AA. We are also part of 'Pub group of the year 2016' by the Good Pub Guide.
