Remembering E Tunel from years past, I was anxious to visit there. This time the food was inedible, really bad. We had to abandon our dinner. We were the only diners and that was not true in the past. I found carbonized food particles in my enchilada. The horchatta was thin and overly sweet. There was dried food on the... More

We give this place five stars. Why? Certainly not because of its uncharming decor, its so-so cleanliness, its lack of English, or its plain-Jane waitresses. It's none of that for sure. This place is AUTHENTIC Mexicano. If you're a tourist and just stepped off the plane, you'll probably struggle to recognize anything on the menu and no staff member will... More

We found this place on the city tour. We went back to try it. It's absolutely amazing!! Staff spoke broken but good English. I had the tacos which are to die for. My husband had soup and a few other things. We walked out spending $11 for dinner! We've gone twice on this trip and will likely go again before... More

We went with a local friend because my parents had been there 30 years ago and knew it to be good authentic food. No more. As we sat down we were told the only beverages were pop and margaritas. So we ordered the latter - tasted like soda syrup. Asked for new ones and they said no. Full charge and... More

Went there for dinner on a weekend night and were the ONLY customers. Felt very sad. Staff milling around with nothing to do. Many items on the menu not available. Food run of the mill. Place was cozy and staff friendly but it just didn't seem to be doing enough business to keep the food fresh.

This restaurant has been closed for a while and reopened this season. It is located across from Angela Peralta Theatre. I went there with friends, curious to find out about possible changes. To keep it short, we were not impressed. Food was mediocre, service was below standards and the atmosphere was un-friendly and cold. Will not go back.

We go to El Tunel for the pozole but have branched out to try other things. A bowl of pozole is a meal by itself and at 65 pesos is a bargain. They have many a la carte items like tostadas & enchiladas. These are only 25 pesos each and are very good. We have been here twice so far... More

Our first night back in town and we came for the pozole. Mostly a local crowd is here and this was the case this year. Our waiter was helpful and pleasant. Margaritas were not the best. But the pozole was everything we expected.

Great place if you like mexican antojitos. Traditional fried tacos, tostadas, sopes and gorditas. Served with hot tomate sauce and lots of veggies. Great place.

This qualifies as a "hole in the wall" across from the entrance to Angela Peralta Theatre. As a cenaduria (cafe or bistro) the menu is limited to family favorites. The staff doesn't speak much English but we were able to order with Spanglish and pointing. The flan is to die for! It's house-made, more like a ricotta cheesecake without the... More

Description
It's run by these sweet, older women. We described it as "Mexican home-cooking." It's all homemade and simple, but SOOO good. The mole is delicious! As is the tortila soup, and chicken dishes.
