Freshly rolled tamales, pork, chicken, spicy, not. We had six, simply prepared, waters and the bill was under five dollars. Efficient service and real local vibration. We were stuffed like the tamales!

I'm just a hick from the sticks...Who knew there are so many different kinds of tamales? My wife and I got 4 different varieties and loved every one. The restaurant is clean and the service fast and friendly. And prices? If you can't afford to eat here you might try the Mercado but I doubt it's any cheaper there. Dona... More

These are the best tamales and salsas around! They're always fresh and inexpensive. The servers are all friendly, especially Ana. I particularly like the rajas (mild pepper strips, inside the tamales) - the red, green, with cheese and Mexico - ALL of them! I also like mole and bola. The salsas they serve, to put on top, are delicious! We... More

I was recommended this place by a local & must say the Tomales are delicious! I tried 3 different ones during my stay here with my favourite probably being the Mole with lashings of salsa verde & salsa picante - I like the spicy & sweet combo :) they are only 12pesos ($1) each, lovingly handmade by 2 really nice... Dona Ame isn't open all day which is totally understandable knowing how labor intensive making handmade tamales can be. They make both banana leaf and corn husk varieties, and I've always been partial to the tamales steamed in corn husks, so I surprised even myself when I ordered two wrapped in banana leafs: a chicken mole and a dried shrimp... I love the Atole and the tamales. The little restaurant is clean and very reasonable. The Atole is my favorite. It is hard to find Atole served anywhere in Mexico now.

This is a cute little restaurant located fairly close to the main zocalo. We ate there twice on our recent trip, once for lunch, once for evening sweet tamales and atole drinks. Everything was delicious and served with a warm smile. Tamales only 12 pesos. ($1) Highly recommended.
