I visited Rocka's Beach Town Grill with friends on their opening night last week and we all had a great experience. This is the new restaurant run by Stephanie and Chef Mavin of the popular Rocka's Jamaican Grill and it is, if anything, even better! It's in a fabulous location on Calle 38 features a wonderful Asian Caribbean inspired menu. I had a flavourful Asian pork dish with vermicelli and shared a spring roll starter. Both dishes were very yummy and resonably priced for the location and ambiance of the restaurant. Next time I will definitely having the lemon grass chicken, although the avocado and tuna starter I tried was also a winner. The menu is really original and full of wonderful ingredients. Service was excellent too. I will be coming back again soon and often! Can highly recommend this new jewel for dining in Playa!

I came here for a nice dinner alone. Sunday evening is my day for a “treat” meal where I can eat anything I want after eating restricted meals all week. I was impressed from the moment I walked in. The staff is very professional, courteous, efficient and friendly. The owners greet everyone personally and is genuinely interested in making sure the customers are satisfied. The atmosphere is very fun and upbeat with beautiful lighting and furniture, and music that every single person can relate to. I knew and enjoyed every song from Michael Jackson to Garth Brooks. The dinner was more than I expected. I fully indulged and had the jerk chicken wings for appetizer. It was delicious and tender. The sauce was excellent and took it over the top. The Jamaican Ox Tail dinner was exactly the way I remember it tasting in Jamaica - bursting with flavor and falling off the bone. It was very authentic. Even the peas and rice and plantains were authentic. Of course I had to try the Rum Pudding. I had it without ice cream and it was so good and moist by itself. All of the portions were generous and presented beautifully. At the end, I was surprised to see how reasonable my bill was. That was a plus for sure. I can’t find enough words to say how great this restaurant is. I just met the owners tonight so I’m not writing this because I know them. I’m writing this because I’m now a raving fan. I can tell they put their heart and soul and a lot of love into making this restaurant the best in Playa. I will be back. And I’ll tell everyone I know to check it out. I’m now telling you…check it out. You won’t be disappointed.

Fantastic experience dining at Rockas 19:30 March 16th. Great fusion menu: Vietnamese & Jamaican. We were very well looked after at the table by Edgar and it was great to meet the Chef Marvin. Beautiful home made Vietnamese spring rolls and the shrimp linguine had a gorgeous Jamaican influence The ambience was terrific with music from 70’s Disco playing in the background as chosen by the lovely lady boss! The Rest Room was immaculate; which is not always the case in this part of the world. Easy access by taxi to the junction of 5th and 38 in the northern end of town then walk down towards the beach. Highly recommend.

After waiting patiently for the grand opening, we have been Rockas a handful of times since it opened in November and it never disappoints. Whether we drop in for some food to go, or dine on the patio, we are always warmly greeted by the staff and owners Steph and Chef Marvin. We took our family to Rockas a couple nights before Christmas and they were able to accommodate our party of 12 without batting an eye. The food was hot, the drinks were cold and we had a lot of great laughs. Some of our favorites - the Spring Rolls, Rasta Pasta, Garlic Shrimp and of course the Jerk Wings. We've honestly never had a bad dish or a bad meal, so feel free to explore the menu! We are so happy to have Rockas in the neighborhood as a place where we can bring all of our family and friends when they visit. In fact, I think we'll go there tonight!

We came as a group of four and tried several options from jamaican and asian.menu. Everything was sooo good. We loved the food, we loved the atmosphere and the owners were so welcoming. The service was great. These days in Playa you can visit many restaurants not many will offer such a pleasant experience. We will be back as soo as we can :)

Food was really good, fairly distinct from other more generic tourist restaurents in the area. Waiters are so attentive which can be coinsided depends on how you like. I found the chair to be very low compare to table high, not so comfortable when eating. Spicy dishes not marked cleary in the menu (ok got surprised here). All waiters are attentive and kept asking if all is good pr missing anything, might turn to be a bit irritated. Finally everyone seems to expect huge tips (they not like to give changes if it’s still 20% for the changes and they only accept cash)

From the moment our reservation was made until we finished our meal- everything was exceptional! Stephanie greeted us with the warmth of a friend and the attentiveness of our waiter Dan was amazing. The care and obvious passion that Chef Marvin puts into his food makes a meal at Rockas unforgettable . I had mentioned when I made our reservation that we would be celebrating our 20th anniversary on the night of our visi, not only were we wished a happy anniversary by many staff we were gifted with the most delicious rum pudding. Rockas Beachtown Grill is a must for dining in Playa del Carmen, we are already looking forward to our next visit!

Stephanie greeted us warmly at the front entrance and took us to our table. Danny was our first waiter that asked our names and every time he spoke to us he used them. Danny said all the waiters are the same and any one would help us out and they were all so warm and friendly. We had two appetizers the Jamaican Patty (spicy) and Vietnamese spring rolls. Both were wonderful We were advised that the main meal portions are larger so we opted to share the Jerk Chicken. It was perfect for two to share the chicken with rice, salad and plantains. Beautiful spot and the outdoor evening ambiance is very relaxing. Wonderful place to eat. Bottom line is food is wonderful the service was top notch and the staff in the front and kitchen all work as a team. We will be back. Thank you for a lovely evening. Special shout out to Danny who goes above and beyond !!

ROCKAS CONTINUES TO ROCKAS Whenever I hear about any kind of “fusion” restaurant I’m always wary. My last two fusion eating experiences were at a dreadful Greek/Mexican fusion place named “Senor Opas” and an equally awful Russian/Italian fusion joint “Commie Ciao” serving some horrible Borscht Fettuccine. No bueno. So, I was somewhat cautious about the new Rockas Beach Town Grill, a Caribbean /Asian fusion restaurant down on the elegant Calle 38. But, after never having a sub-par meal at the the original Rockas, I felt fairly safe in the talented hands of Superchef Marvin and his Hostess with the Mostess, Stephanie. So, my bright yet sometimes extremely spacey esposa deluxe, her lovely bff from big D and our good friends from wicked Beantown all met for a dinner at this new spot last night. First, it’s a charming place, warmly lit with a comfortable vibe. The menu offered some of the Rockas familiar Jamaican standbys like Jerk Chicken, Rasta Pasta, Jerk Oxtails and others, plus a slew of Asian dishes. We opened with a couple orders of the delicious spring rolls lightly fried to perfection. The wife shared a huge grilled Caribbean lobster tail with her friend that looked as good as it tasted they said. I tried the grilled Lemongrass Chicken which was perfect as well with great flavor. Our Bostonian guests also had the Lemongrass Chicken which disappeared quickly. As for the whole fusion thing-it’s kind of like when you first heard Bowie’s song “China Girl” at first it’s a little disjoined and then it all comes together into a sweet marriage. As was the food at the Beach Town Grill and of course the service was spot on. It’s extremely difficult to open and successfully run a restaurant here or anywhere, especially in the tourista world we all now live in. But my good friends Marvin & Stephanie took on this challenge of a second restaurant away from their already their hugely popular Rockas Jamaican Kitchen and delivered again. Congratulations to this couple of restaurant pros!!! And the Mount Gay Rum was just right.

Came here with my girlfriend, had an amazing time. The waiter was super friendly gave us complimentary lemonade and passion fruit juice, the rum punch was delicious. And I have eaten ALOT of jerk chicken in my life and this jerk chicken was tied for the best jerk chicken I've ever had. I would fly down again just for the chicken.

We enjoyed our visit here. They have excellent service (ask for Danny if you want the best service), the food is delicious especially if you like spice with flavor then try the Jamaican Rasta pasta. We recommend trying if you are new to the area.

We we're pleased to be able to be at Rockas beachtown for the grand opening and wow we were not disappointed. So hard to choose Vietnamese or Jamaican. We did some of both and you could feel.the love Marvin the chef puts into his cooking. I wish my stomach was bigger(not really) so I could have tried more. You will not regret going to Rockas, Stephanie and Marvin will have you feeling the love and your tastebuds singing

Thank you Stephanie and Marvin for creating an absolute perfect dining experience: From the first greeting by the two of you, and your very personable and attentive team, to the fresh lime margaritas, to the tasty spring rolls (you were right about them) and the best lemon grass chicken I’ve ever had (so tender and flavorful) and the most fabulous jerk chicken my husband ever had (spicy and delicious). The atmosphere is so very friendly and has a comfortable and familiar vibe. Good music and great ambiance! And thank you to Danny, our fun and friendly server, and the rest of the team that stopped by our table. Thank you for making us feel so welcome and thank you for the amazing culinary experience that Rocka’d our taste buds! Would HIGHLY recommend. 6 stars!!

Our experience was all around memorable. The food was prompt and delicious, our server Daniel was attentive and entertaining Without even asking, he brought us an extra shot of Don Julio for our margaritas. We’ve been to Playa literally 100+ times, very few restaurants match up to the quality of food and service that we experienced at Rockas.
