Another gem that is on the main street in Tulum-- this is a place clearly a favorite among the locals, busy, filled with live music- I asked someone where I could find fresh lobster, and he said "Punta Allen" but I am staying in an airbnb in town, and I just wanted a short trip. It was a short bike... More

This place is a gem!!! Fresh seafood, cold beers, free chips and dip and attentive staff...all for a great price!! I have been to El Camello three times now and every time I came away very happy! Amazing ceviche! Huge portions stuffed full of the freshest fish and seafood! Delicious fresh fish, we had their Mayan recipe .....Tikixic(or something like... More

Another place you don't want to miss out on, but we went on a Sunday and it was super busy. There was a lineup of people outside waiting to be seated. It gets crazy busy when the restaurant is packed with all the servers trying to navigate between all the squished together tables. The service was also a little lacking,... More

We were in Tulum 3 nights and ate at El Camello twice for dinner. Right on the main strip (Hwy 307) in downtown Tulum. Open air patio and indoor tables. Out waiters spoke English good enough for us to communicate effectively. Pleasant staff. Great seafood! Chips pico de gallo and Guacamole were awesome too. Full bar. However the Limonada was... This is casual place but super popular with both locals and tourists. So don't be surprised if you have to wait for a table. We went there twice during a recent visit as the food was so good. I tried a few different dishes - the shrimp with garlic was excellent but a bit salty for my taste. Their seafood... More

El Camello serves a variety of dishes and yet what you will see in front of every second person is the cevice camaron - shrimp cevice. Small shrimp make up the bulk of the serving that comes in small, medium, or large size. The medium big enough for 2. All the food is basic and perfectly cooked.

I visited here twice within a couple of days. The grilled prawns in hot sauce where very good also the mixed ceviche was the best I've tasted in Mexico, so much fish and really fresh. My friends had the grilled fish and mixed kabab and everyone was very happy with there meals.

Recommended to us by our guide at Sian Ka'an. It's right on the left side when you enter Tulum Pueblo coming back from the biosphere. (by the way, stop at the honey place on the left side after you leave the biosphere...it's like halfway back to Tulum...but the honey is incredible!) Anyway, eat at El Camello. It's a locals and... Although there was an even split of both tourists and local Mexicans eating here, I would lean towards this place being a "locals" joint. This is the classic atmosphere you get in many open air Mexican and Central American eateries. Basic plates include a protein (Fish, Chicken, etc.), rice, beans and veg. Everything was tasty and reasonably priced. Nothing super... More
