The night we were there for dinner a huge rainstorm took place and the restaurant began to flood. The management handled it beautifully and we continued to eat our dinner as the water approached. The water stopped a few feet from our table. We had...More

Despite the unfortunate name of this restaurant, it was really quite nice. I especially enjoyed the lavender lemon tart for dessert. The food was fresh and beautifully presented. I had chicken provencal and my husband had duck. We were both pleased and especially enjoyed eating...More

I feel disgusted by this place a heaven for ex-pats who gorge on this greasy, hairy and heavily tattooed chef's cheap thrills. I was personally ignored - yes, ignored at the bar three times while the gringos next to me were served. Racism is brought...More

One of our top three dinners in town. Fantastic. Ask for a table in the front courtyard. There is a fantastic jewelry store adjoining the restaurant. Check it out between courses.

It is always nice to walk in The Restaurant knowing that it's consistently good. We got a table in the back patio which I personally prefer and even if the waiters were kind of disperse, we had a nice time and a good meal.

Friends hosted us here for dinner on the last night of their weeklong visit with us, based on a couple of recommendations. While the dining ambience is lovely, all four dinners were lacking in culinary creativity and certainly didn't justify the upscale price!

The Restaurant was on the San Miguel food tour, and understandably so. The food is outstanding, atmosphere upscale, service impeccable. We had a braised rib that was melt-in-your-mouth-lovely. A great place to take someone special. Noise level is not an issue, so you can hear...More

The restaurant keeps surprising us every time we go. Great service, great food but by now I would except no less.

We go often as the menu is always consistently delicious. Ribs and chicken tacos are a favorite. Location is very close to the town center. No parking as most places in San Miguel so park a block away.

This is an absolutely outstanding restaurant. The setting is beautiful. The staff is trained as well as any I've seen. They're efficient, professional, friendly and knowledgeable. The menu is incredibly creative. Within our group of three, each indulged ourselves with an an appetizer, a "starter"...More

Most restaurants include this tax in their prices...so you don't see it. It's up to them to pay it. The Restaurant puts this price on top of their prices, so you see this value added tax (IVA).

Description
THE RESTAURANT, housed in one of San Miguel’s most elegantly colonial settings at Sollano 16, opened in February 2008 featuring Chef Donnie Masterton’s world class cuisine. It is located just steps away from the main square of San Miguel de Allende, the prettiest and most restored/written-about Colonial city in all of Mexico. Offering a full bar, it serves lunch and dinner five days a week in a sun-dappled eighteen century Moroccan courtyard, as well as in their elegant dining salon.Serving global comfort good, THE RESTAURANT’s menu reflects the changing seasons with a focus on the simplicity of fine ingredients. The Chef collaborates with local organic growers, dairy farmers and ranchers to procure the freshest, highest quality and responsibly raised product available. Catering to today’s more experienced, adventurous and health conscious diners, The Restaurant will emphasize quality in food and customer service…as well as a more involved relationship with respect to our food and the land it comes from.
