The food was fantastic! The service was great! I have to say the team that helped us from greeting us at the door to everyone that helped us that evening made it a really unforgettable! Big thank you to Edgar, Roger, Carlos, Montse and Angel!
We had a family dinner toward the end of our vacation and we were all wishing we had more time so we could eat here again. We shared a few appetizers and we all had steak for dinner. Excellent wine and the kids loved dessert...(churros!)More
We have been here many times. It is a beautiful property, La Casona (the main restaurant) offers exceptional cuisine, the rooms are lovely and the landscape and the bay (fed by the ocean) are magnificent. But what truly makes it special are the wonderful people...who work here and go out of their way to make your holiday so special. There are so many: Eduardo, Carlos, Miguel, Angel Jasso and Monserrat who are in La Casana. There is also La Casana's morning crew: Lorena, Santana, Brianda, Ramon, Tony and Amairany. And there is Enbai who oversees the pool area and the beach and Fidel who is at the beach and helps in any way he can. Most of these people have been here for years and it is wonderful to see them when we arrive and they all remember us. . .
La Estancia is magical and renewing.More
We were prepared for an amazing evening.dinner but sadly La Casona way under-performed. The restaurant opens at 6PM and we were actually the first to be seated. We did not get our main course until 7:25PM (85 minutes after ordering). And, besides, the service was...very un-attentive -- never was asked if we wanted/needed more water/ice/bread/butter etc.
this is probably the most expensive restaurant in the area and I expected more.
By the way, the food was very good -- not amazing but more than tastyMore
My family and I had a fabulous evening at La Casona. The food was incredible. I highly recommend the lobster croquettes, French onion soup, filet, and churros. All of the staff very impressive and made the night memorable, especially Eduardo, Javier, Edgar, Carlos, Angel, and...Marcos. Thank you for such a great dinner!More
Our week at La Estancia was better than perfect!! Our breakfasts and dinners at La Casona made our trip memorable and fantastic! There were a few people that went above and beyond our expectations! We sincerely thank our omelet chef, and Carlos, Miguel, Montsel, Edgar,...Eduardo and Roger for making our trip the BEST! We highly recommend visiting La Estancia! It was a trip we will remember always!!!More
This restaurant was top tier, we ate here three out of our 5 nights. The beef carpaccio was phenomenal, steaks were perfect, and drinks/desserts as well. Highly recommend ordering the after dinner coffees they are amazing. Gabriel at the bar was wonderful each night and...Rogelio made the best coffee drinks table side and was a wonderful server.More

Hi Yobs, re: your question.
We love this restaurant so I re-read my review because I didn't recall making the statement about La Casona that you referred to in your question. Maybe I'm missing something??? Perhaps it was for another restaurant??? Here again is my review of La Casona and it confirms how I feel about La Casona being a real deal in the fine dining scene in Nuevo.... Adios:)

La Casona at La Estancia far outshines the rest in Nuevo for a fine dining experience.
We have dined here numerous times, visiting family. We've numbered anywhere from 4 to 9 adults, always with a few little ones in tow. Our plan is to visit alone as a couple this coming winter to compare that experience plus I now have dietary limitations to apply. Most previous occasions were for dinner but also breakfasts (btw, the poolside restaurant is also good). The food is consistently excellent, well-prepared and beautifully presented. Special requests are happily accommodated. The wine selection is nice and cocktails are properly mixed with a good selection of top brand liquors. The atmosphere is comfortably elegant especially enhanced by a live piano. We've never been disappointed with the service, even on the busiest of nights. The wait staff is professional, eager to please at all times and happy with the children. This praise cannot always be said for other expensive restaurants around Nuevo where we've been disappointed too often by poor attitudes and food quality that does not match the $$$$. Even if you have to cab it to La Casona versus a restaurant closer to you tempting you with the perception of excellence, La Casona rates the best chance of winning you over. A taxi from the Paradise Village area ran us about 120 pesos later in the evening. If you like bussing it, the Riu bus travels from Paradise Village northward dropping off in front of La Estancia's sister property of Villa Palmar Flamingos but you'll have to take a taxi back southward. If you're coming from Bucerias, the taxi was under 100 pesos. Keep in mind the taxi rates go up each year.
