Called in when passing for lunch. It's very quaint inside. Not a lot of tables so recommend booking - even in the week. Food is typically local - venison, pidgeon, black pudding. It's not a cheap eat by any means but the food is very nice. Tasty and hot. Not a lot of it but we would definitely return. Staff... More

Typical small village hostelry. Excellent range of beers and reasonable choices on the menu. My table was cramped and the window seat uncomfortable but such is the fate of the single diner in the UK!

A group of us were staying near this pub for a long weekend so decided to go for an early meal on the Friday night. We had prebooked as requested, and the food was delicious. Together with a great atmosphere in the pub, and well kept beer to suit everyone, it made a great start to our weekend. The staff... More

Having been to this quaint village pub in the heart of Derbyshire on numerous occasions. My partner and I have never once been dissatisfied with the warm welcome, friendly atmosphere, food and local beers. A good old fashioned proper Pub. Well Done to the owners and staff.

Second time we've been here. The food is very good. The first time I had a beef short rib, which was a thing of beauty. This time smoked brisket which was equally memorable. Good beer too and surrounded by stunning walking country

We stopped by the Packhorse Inn for a Sunday evening meal and are so glad we did - the Inn is very cosy and charming with a lovely wood fire. It is clearly a very popular place, with a real old fashioned, local pub feel to it. The food was delicious - lovely comfort pub type food of really good... More

It's with a heavy heart that I am placing this review as I really want to keep this wonderful hostlery to myself. The pub oozes character, warmth and friendly staff, the food is first class and the beer is extremely well kept. We had a mixture from the menu and all the meals were fantastic arrived piping hot which is... More

We visited for an early family dinner on a Tuesday evening in half term week. The place was buzzing and we had a lovely warm and friendly welcome. The choice of food was impressive and all locally sourced, as were the cask ales. The children declared the bangers and mash the best ever, the fish stew was fab and the... More

There's no doubt that the atmosphere here is good. Thriving busy establishment with open fires, wide selection of beers (is this place owned by the Thornbridge Brewery?!), friendly staff and an imaginative menu. Let down a little by the quality of the food we chose; sirloin steak was poor and tough and the roast dinner mediocre, the meat very dry... More
