I had had a very good experience 12 months ago - so it looked full steam ahead for an early Chiristmas Party, 2016. How mistaken I was. Something had happened over the past 11 months. Instead of the Carvery being left out for three-quarters of an hour, it was swept away after a few minutes. It started badly with my... More

We went with friends on the 3th December, as we entered the pub was packed which was a good sign! We hadn't booked a table but were told at the bar we could eat in the pub area as apposed to the restaurant area - which was fine. We had to wait a while for our food which we didn't... More

Just got back after a Monday night meal and drinks at one of my favourite pubs the old poets. And although the meal was ok the young tall blonde lad who was behind the bar was rubbish took me 20 minutes to get served, and when I finally did order my drinks, I tried to order my food and he... More

Booked a table here not knowing there had been a change of management. However, the food was excellent and the landlord most welcoming. Will definitely visit again.

Great traditional pub with the smell of reals fires. Had the carvery, which was sparingly dished out. I felt like Oliver Twist when I asked for another roast potato. 4 small ones seemed very mean if you are an average eater. I was surprised you was allowed to help yourself to the gravy and carrots!

Eaten here a couple of times recently, first time had whole sea bass with a prawn and cream sauce which was one of the best things I've eaten in a long time, and the second time I tried the home made meat and potato pie with chips and mushy peas - another really lovely meal. Lots of delicious real ales... More

Recommended by the hotel receptionist, this is a busy pub/restaurant with plenty of atmosphere. Quirky building. Food was good without being outstanding. Rump steak was excellent, beef and potato pie well filled although reheating had over cooked it a little. Superb range of local beers. £50 for 2 courses and drinks for 2 of us. Worth a visit? Definitely.

Visited on a Sunday evening for a curry night. Ordering seemed a confusing problem for the waitress with food arriving and being collected apparently at random. Curries were ok but it seemed that a base meat ingredient was enhanced with a variety of sauces rather than being cooked as the final dish from the beginning. Range and quality of ales... More

It is not obvious from the online menu, but when we enquired the pub was able to cater for a group that included 3 coeliacs. Unfortunately you can't have the chips as they are cooked with other products but the food we had was delicious and there is even a gluten free cheese cake for pudding. Gets busy so definitely...
