I recently visited Calgary for the first time, to attend Fan Expo Calgary (a great event by the way, highly recommended to all), and stayed at the Calgary Marriott Downtown Hotel (please see a separate review for them). The One18 Empire restaurant is part of...the hotel, and is a superb place for a memorable meal. I especially enjoyed their One18 All Canadian breakfast (a hearty meal), the Bread Pudding French toast, and the Steel Cut oatmeal. For my evening meal I had the One18 Empire burger with the One18 Premium Bourbon flight (okay, an unusual combination, but I was on vacation!), and also the Calgary Sunset. If someone near me was having a “smoky” drink, one of the servers (I regret not getting her name) put on a great show with a blowtorch and a barrel with different wood on top that she would torch, then gather up the smoke in the glass. I had a fantastic time on this trip and I will be back again. Many thanks to all at this great restaurant.More

Disappointing for sure!!! I too felt very discriminated against and disrespected in this setting by a young male server. I got the feeling he just didn't want to work and sent his supervisor over to let us know they wouldn't be serving us. Bad form!!...and yes I WILL tell everyone how crappy this experience was.More

Since this place opened it has been a favourite place of mine to go to sfter a show to get an Old Fashioned and some nibbles. I have brought many people here over the years Until this week... My fruend and I had just left...the Calgary Philarmonic Tribute to David Bowie concert. First row. So much fun. Even a bit of dancing at the end. My friend and I decided to wrap up the evening with a cocktail and some nibbles, to wait out the taxi wait rush. We headed over to ONE18 EMPIRE for an Old Fashioned where the young waiter, after sitting us, proceeded to tell us that he would only be serving us water. What? To "protect us". What? He sent his manager to us who confirmed that we did not look sober and they would not serve us. What ????? Water! That's what I had at the Arts Common. Face paint and sparkles=inebriated? What? The Fairmont Palliser Hotel was a much more civilized place to wait for our taxi and get a cocktail. I will not go back. Old ladies 😏 are allowed to have fun after dark, even if a young fellow does not think so.More

For a lovely place that is for dinner - breakfast wasn’t at its best Dry potatoes and non eatable eggs ( watery and almost pure raw not even cooked a second ). For that price I could’ve have amazing breakfast anywhere close by. Very disappointed.

It is a very cozy place attached to the Marriott Hotel in the downtown area. The service was great, and the food was great. I particularly love the fries and the opportunity to order large food that can be shared if you are more than...2. Overall, great experience.More

We shared delicious halibut, crab dip, and side salad... and were treated to Prosecco and a homemade shortbread with strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, white chocolate, and whipped cream to celebrate our anniversary (see photo). Delicious food and special surprises for a memorable evening! Thanks so much...to our attentive waitperson, Kalli, and the whole team for going the extra mile to make our time with One18 Empire special. We held a corporate social event at One18 and we could not be more pleased with how it turned out! Working with the team to make the arrangements was smooth and efficient. The team was responsive to our inquiries and went above and beyond to...make our vision a reality. Both the staff and food at the event were excellent. The venue itself allowed for fun mingling and socializing. Highly recommended!More

We did a team event in the private room and it was great! The food was delicious, they even accomodated changing the menu for us. Faye was so good, did up some fancy Old Fashioned and explained how they do it/why they do it. She...also was very fast at getting the food out to us, as we had to be at another venue for 1:30. Highly recommend.More

ONE18 Empire is a amazing whiskey-inspired bar and restaurant in downtown Calgary. The food is fresh, tasty and locally inspired, and the portions are generous. I loved the brisket sliders, the mac and cheese and the apple pie. The service was friendly and attentive, and...the ambiance was cozy and lively. ONE18 Empire is a must-try for anyone who loves whiskey and food.More

We recently hosted a business team dinner for 9 people at ONE18 Empire. Anna arranged for a wonderful evening and provided top notch service from initial process of making the reservation and recommending a selection of appetizers, through to attentive but not intrusive dinner service....Watching the torching/smoking process of making the custom old fashioned drinks was great fun for the group and the Japanese whisky flight was exceptional. They just released their spring menu and the salt and pepper squid and halibut were both standouts. The ambience was very pleasant - open and inviting but not too loud so we could easily carry a dinner conversation even with a somewhat larger table group. We will definitely be back.More

Food was good , drinks were good but customer service was a bummer . I came inside and I waited for over 10 minutes for someone to come to the front to offer us table ! There were people walking by but no one even...said a word to us saying sorry there are busy or that someone will be right with us . Food was good and so were the drinks … but again after we were done our food it took maybe 20 min to get a bill . Place was not busy , it was us and one other table . Just dissapointing , I would go back for food but with this customer service I probably won’t .More

Very happy with our experience here. Exceptional and friendly service from Bri (hailing from our neck of the woods in Niagara!) and also her counterpart (sorry I don’t recall his name…) who helped us decide on cocktails. Really cool how they do the drink service...at your table. Burgers were great. Unpretentious and reasonably priced. Would definitely return!More

This place is simply fantastic and a bit of a surprise. Its not very big and attached to the hotel so you don't have a lot of expectations, but they do everything great. Food it delicious and anything on the menu looks and taste great....The staff here is fun, knowledgeable, and accommodating. From simple sandwiches to unique items you just don't get at other local restaurants, this restaurant makes them delicious and memorable.... and if you would like some cocktails and specialty drinks, these guys bring out the show for sure.. just come here in the evening and the place is fully packed. Great spot and will definitely come back for great food and great drinks.More
