My review might be unfair as I went in with high expectations. We had the chefs table and had a good view of the busy kitchen on a friday night. Unfortunately saw too much of one of the chefs though and he would often bend and his pants would struggle to cover his hairy bottom. The starters and mains were... More

Food was excellent. Service was excellent. I was disappointed by what the manager was wearing. It was inappropriate for the restaurant atmosphere. Really? Tight track pants (leggings) and a loose "shirt". Wear what the servers are or something similar. How ridiculous to have a classy restaurant with a manager in an outfit that you would wear to the park.

I've been to Characters more than a dozen times in the past few years and the food is always fantastic, the environment is wonderful and there is free parking - downtown! Today I had the Schnitzel which is Vienna style (not breaded). I love breaded schnitzel but this was a treat, the sauce was unbelievable - I would have licked... More

Characters may be slipping. For a Friday night there were more staff than patrons (virtually empty), yet service was less than expected, a second order of bannock bread was apparently stressful and time consuming to complete. It was explained that there was a private group downstairs that was demanding their attention. (?). Had a pleasant table by the fireplace. Beet... More

I attended this restaurant for the first time in Jan. 2017, for a private function. The place is quite large and the floor plan is such that different people can discuss with different groups, while still being part of the larger whole. The bar is well stocked, at the back of the restaurant. I guess during normal restaurant service, this... More

Had the chefs multi course meal with paired drinks. Absolutely delicious with generous drinks. Not too loud, able to have a conversation and relax with good food.

I've been eating at Characters for 14 years now. When I first came to Edmonton this restaurant was one of the best in the city and although some places seem to go off the boil over time, Characters has maintained its position as one of the nicest places to eat in Northern Alberta. Shonn, head chef and owner, has consistently... More

We set up a retirement party at this restaurant because of its central location and ability to accommodate a group of 40. They have rooms in the basement that can be reserved for large parties and helps to keep the occasion intimate. We had our own servers and chefs and no music or loud groups to talk over. They provided... More

We went with friends for dinner before 7 PM hockey game. In addition to the standard menu there was a option for a prix fixe menu offering four selections. Our reservation for five pm fit perfectly. The food was excellent - a pork belly appetizer, lamb loin and lemon meringue pie. The service was equally good. Two blocks from Rogers... More

Description
Restaurants come and go. The good ones last for years. Characters Fine Dining has been at the heart of Edmonton's downtown restaurant scene for over 15 years. The seasonal menu allows not only for the freshest produce to be served but also for owner, Chef Shonn to take the diners' experience to the next level by exposing their taste buds to contemporary dishes inspired by his extensive training in European, Asian and continental Canadian Cuisine. Located in a restored warehouse on 105th street, the simple elegance of the dining room is resonated by the copper finishing, brick walls and wood beams.
