The Dinghy Dock Pub is on a small island about a mile from Nanaimo's harbor. Every hour, while the pub is open, a 35 person or so ferry takes you from Nanaimo Harbor to the Pub for a small fee. The pub is large and with interesting decor. The food was really good and at a fair price. Drink prices... More

I was visiting off a cruise ship and took the short boat trip from the wharf in Nanaimo to the pub and it was wonderful. The fresh halibut fish and chips were so tasty and the fries were good as well. Service was quick and the beer on tap is good. Try to get to the departure area at least... More

Came in for my birthday. A good friend of mine and I decided to head in and go try this joint out. So happy we went. Our server Lara was amazing. And made out time there Awesome. We can be hard to please as my friend and I are both career servers. But she was the perfect waitress for the... More

The place is novel for sure! Fun atmosphere but the food was not impressive. I was rather disappointed as the menu read great! But the favours were bland and reassemble more of a bar food. That being said the beer was ice cold staff are amazing.. The decor... Are you kidding... So FUN. And the trip there was a blast.

We went on Mother's Day and it was very quiet inside. Everyone enjoyed the environment and the food for the most part. We stood at there for awhile before anyone greeted us though. The girl who finally greeted us did not smile and appeared to be in a really sour and snotty mood. All we got was 'go sit' We... More

Had a late lunch early dinner here. The clam chowder was the best I've had in recent memory. The halibut and chips was delicious and the Sex In A Dinghy dessert isn't just a fun name to say. Its also a delicious treat. Dinghy Dock Pub is on my short list of places I will most definitely return to the... More

We had a wonderful time at this pub! The atmosphere was quaint, the fish and chips delicious and the wine was terrific! Taking a boat from Nanaimo to the pub made for a great family experience. We all enjoyed our afternoon and the service was friendly...just so fitting for this lovely spot.

I was here in April for an annual event called the Great Ocean Race. Starting off the Dinghy Dock we race radio controlled sailboats around Protection Island accompanied by chase boats. Once finished we gather in the pub for food drink awards and prizes sponsored by the Dinghy Dock pub. I had the Phillips Hop Circle IPA which was nice... More

The Dinghy Dock Pub & Restaurant has been an attraction in Nanaimo, British Columbia since 1989. The expansive views, relaxed atmosphere and great pub fare make us a popular destination year round. We are the only registered floating pub in Canada making your experience a unique one. We’re moored off beautiful Protection Island originally known as Douglas Island. The ramp that connects the pub to the island allows visitors to walk the rock beaches, visit the parks or view the heron rookery, making it feel like you’re on vacation. Whether you arrive by ferry, kayak or private boat it’s our goal to make your trip to The Dinghy Dock Pub and Protection Island a memorable one!

The Dinghy Dock Pub was originally designed to function as a marina. This included a store with bait shop and showers. In 1989 patrons would order and pay for drinks at the bar and do the same for food through a hole in the kitchen wall! Over the years the Dinghy Dock Pub has expanded three times. The expansions included patios, a family area and enlargement of the kitchen. The original docks surrounding the pub were lower to the water to accommodate the dinghies of yachts anchored in the harbour. Presently our docks range in size and fit vessels as small as kayaks and as large as a 50′ sail or power boat.

Along with the docks, we’ve evolved to become a full service pub and restaurant where minors can dine as well. The Dinghy Dock Pub and Restaurant are entirely floating, creating an amazing experience once aboard. Our menus show case delicious seafood, a twist on classic pub fare and local beers from Vancouver Island. Stunning views of the coast are featured from every seat in the house whether you’re inside or out. The fishing hole on the restaurant patio has great views of the Nanaimo Harbour and Vancouver island. Kids and their parents can try to make the big catch at our fishing hole while enjoying the sights and sounds of sea planes, boats and nature.

Protection Island is situated between the beautiful Newcastle and Gabriola Islands. The population of Protection Island is 350 and measures a mile and a half long by a mile wide. The island is a relaxing walk before or after visiting the Dinghy Dock Pub. As you walk the island you’ll notice only a handful of cars and an abundance of golf carts. Most residents use golf carts for transportation and to haul groceries from the ferry or their private boat. Interesting areas of exploration are the community garden, beaches or parks and local museum. Next time you visit The Dinghy Dock Pub leave yourself extra time to check out this little island across the Nanaimo Harbour!
