Ginger Sushi has friendly owners with one of the better Sushi's selections on the Drive. Good fair prices!

I have been on a mission lately: find a good, reliable sushi place on Commercial Drive. Ginger Sushi offers an intimate little space that is welcoming and interestingly decorated. The textured rice paper walls are attractive, imparting a sense of the casual, genuine exotic, rather than the in-your-face "cutesy" kitch that assails the customers at many sushi restaurants. But how... More

A little place, it was busy for dinner so we tried it. Nice place, clearly loved by locals (see chopsticks with names lining the wall, which is nice). Service was slow, the food was ok. Decent value but not great, focused on rolls and bento, not great nigiri or sashimi combos so we got a boat for 2. I wasn't... More

My wife and I have eaten at Ginger at least a dozen times. It was the second sushi restaurant we tried on The Drive and haven`t bothered to try a third. The fish is always fresh, the dishes prepared carefully and the service excellent. There are a good range of salads, soups, sushi, sashimi and rolls to choose from. As... More

This place is very small and was an unexpected treasure. Service was attentive and food was fabulous. There were 7 of us and everyone tried something different. Presentation was perfect and taste delicious.

I had never been to Ginger Sushi before and was invited to go with a couple of friends. I've always walked past it without giving it too much thought. Boy, was I surprised. The service here is AMAZING. It's a tiny restaurant with less than 10 tables but the sushi is delicious. We were offered miso soup on the house... More

Would recommend anyone get whir sushi here. Super small place with maybe 5 tables makes the experience so sweet and intimate. We are only Sashimi and Miso soup and both were outstanding!

We walked by this restaurant and decided to give it a try. The food is excellent! I ordered the spicy sushi combo A and husband ordered the bento box, both excellent! They are also flexible if you want to change the sushi in your bento box with other sushi on the menu. We will be back!

We went to Ginger after reading other reviews and it was some of the best sushi I've had in Vancouver. Amazing value for money too.

Staying in Commercial Drive

Neighbourhood Profile
Commercial Drive
Commercial Drive, also called "The Drive," comprises of twelve sauntering blocks of modest and unfussy counter-culture. Straddling the line between sophisticated and unadorned, it is favoured by students, artists, writers, designers, and start-ups, and suffused throughout with a healthy off-beat counter-culture. The kind of neighbourhood which well-springs thought-revolutions and has the odd bit of self-aware graffiti, Commercial Drive has resisted gentrification in favor of continuing to build a thriving den of affordable multiculturalism. Once known as Vancouver's "Little Italy," it has also been the immigration point for Guatemalans, Hondurans, and Portuguese to the city. The resulting hodgepodge makes for poetry readings in espresso cafes, social debates in early-open bakeries, and eco-activism posters pinned up in the many multi-ethnic markets in the area. Commercial Drive is where you go to feel like a local, and if you have them, bring the kids – The Drive has a number of bookshops, toy stores, and attractions to get them involved too.
