We went to the Cambie location with friends on a weekday at lunch. We didn't have any expectations except that a good pork bun was on offer. It is not a large place but it seems a lot of people take their food out, so we were able to get a seat. There is a long community table and a... More

First time here. Staff was very friendly. They recommended a couple of sandwiches that we split - the Porchetta - Incredible - never had a sandwich taste like it! And the meatball - very good - more familiar. Perfect spot. I heard it's less crowded on weekends.

We saw this place on a list of restaurants to try in Gas Town and we were not disappointed. My Fiancé and I walked by dozens of other restaurants and cafe's and decided that Meat & Bread would be our lunch stop. Their options are few, but each are absolutely amazing and done to perfection. We had the Porchetta sandwich... More

My wife and I stopped in during a 6 hour stroll through Gastown where we munched on a bunch of different things. This was easily the best. Word of warning: they only serve lunch, so they run out of food on busy days. Hit this place BEFORE 2 if you want to sample everything (and you do).

Literally the best sandwiches. Small menu which was good. Shared the porcetta and the meatball sandwich and they were both SO good. Not cheap but worth it.

Very busy lunch spot but worth the line up. The crackling on the porchetta sandwich is heaven! Nice crusty bread. Communal style seating. A real treat for a quick bite!

Great concept. Limited menu and communal seating. Lined up but the line up moves quickly. Try the porchetta sandwich. Friendly service and easy on the pocket book.

The whole place has a bit of a Zen feeling to it, minimally decorated. Choice of approximately 4 sandwiches, some sides, soup. And I think this concepts works perfectly. Who needs more choice? While enjoying my panini bread I saw 3 times fresh bread rolling out off the oven. Can't get much fresher than this! We opted for the southern... More

Porchetta Sandwich with Chimichurri. Moist pork, perfectly seasoned. and brightened with herbaceous and lemony chimichurri. Crackling pork skin topped and glistening on fresh ciabatta roll. And watching the deconstruction of the porchetta is part of the fun. You are going to make me book a return flight to Vancouver. Seriously, this is the best thing this serious foodie has eaten... Stopped here for lunch with the family. Orders are placed at the counter, and then the food is served up quickly. We had the following: - Porchetta with Salsa Verde - their signature sandwich, with fresh, tender, juicy porchetta with nice crispy skin. Absolutely delicious. - Meatball - also a really great sandwich. A little spicy, but also fantastic. Bread... More

We make sandwiches that are high quality, of good value, and prepared with skill as well as heart. The essence of our food simple, fast, delicious is the foundation of Meat & Bread. Our first shop opened its doors in 2010 in the historic Gastown neighborhood of Vancouver, Canada, and, since then, we have opened another shop in Vancouver as well as in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighbourhood.

Staying in Gastown

Neighbourhood Profile
A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's history a more lively presence here than anywhere else. Having been originally founded around a popular worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of Vancouver's best micro-breweries, creative cocktail joints, and corner bars can be found in this area. Classical charm suffuses its many vintage boutiques and the brick-built structures that an army of creative professionals call home.
