I arranged for a group of five to attend here after I saw that it was rated as the second-best restaurant in Vancouver in a particular magazine. The menu was not extensive but the food was excellent. The ambience is rustic but again I go for the food.

The menu at L'Abattoir had so many good choices that I had a hard time deciding. We would definitely recommend the smoked pate' and my wife loved the ling cod. I had the duck and wasn't disappointed. We would definitely go back.

The food is presented really beautifully but the tastes was just fine for me. I tried the duck breast (I probably should have ask for it be cooked more than medium for my taste) and the financier desert (I have had better financier elsewhere) with a glass of Shiraz. It was underwhelming experience for the price I paid.

Perfect meal beginning to end. Attentive and very helpful service. Fantastic wines by the glass and an AMAZING menu. Highlights we're the chicken leg and the sweetbreads. A really terrific experience. Quality. Quality. Quality.

Fantastic restaurant! The room itself it beautiful. A combination of elegant and industrial with the history of the building. We had the small plates of the foie, spot prawns, tuna, and oysters. All with fantastic flavours and very fresh. We then shared the scallops with pork jowel and the duck. Both were outstanding. We finished with the buckwheat and honey... More

A reservation is essential if you want to enjoy this trendy restaurant located in the heart of the Gastown district. Starters and entrees are tasteful and portions will please the hungriest eater as with excellence prices are set accordingly...

Sitting at the bar has always been one of my favourite go-to spots at a restaurant. There's lots going on, you get to see the masters at work, and you get very fast drink service! We had a nice dinner at L abattoir but found it really highly priced and a bit too much going on on our plates The steak tartare was actually excellent, really nice combo of tastes. The seared tuna and avocado also interesting. But the mains were either a bit too bland (the cos) or too spicy and greasy (the scallops)... More

A lovely evening with delicious food marred by a shocker of a bill. Two margaritas for $48!???? Server claimed that ordering a margarita with specialty tequila results in being served a "double", at twice the price. This was not mentioned when we ordered, and frankly I've NEVER heard of this in all the years I've dined out and ordered drinks.... More

Overall this was a good meal, 3.5/5 would be a more accurate score. The restaurant itself is lovely, I loved all the tiles and the décor. Lovely and bright and comfortable seating. We had made a reservation but when we arrived the maitre d' could not find it, luckily and without any issue a table was available so it worked... More

L'Abattoir is located in the center of Gastown between historic Gaoler's Mews and Blood Alley. The restaurant was built in the 19th century and is the site of Vancouver's first jail. Originally buttressed to the city's main butchery and meat packing district, the name L'Abattoir pays homage to the neighbourhood's colourful past. Set in a refurbished brick and beam building that combines classic French tile work with industrial fixtures, natural wood, and glass and steel finishes, the restaurant offers a bar and lounge setting, elevated dining room and plush, sun soaked atrium. Chef Lee Cooper and Owner / Operator Paul Grunberg are dedicated to highlighting the finer points of eating and drinking in L'Abattoir's informed but informal setting. French influenced West Coast fare is paired with Wine Director Lisa Haley's eclectic wine program and Bar Manager Thor Paulson's innovative cocktail list to offer a truly unique dining experience. L'Abattoir adds to Gastown's bustling breakfast scene with a menu mixing comforting staples with hearty, unique entrees. Thirsty brunchers can sip on creative cocktails, as well as daily feature vermouth on the rocks. Non-alcoholic options include daily bottled house made iced teas. Just adjacent to L'Abattoir's regular dining room is the restaurant's stunning new private dining facility. The 1,200 sq ft. facility features historical architectural elements complimented by a contemporary design aesthetic. While large enough for 50 people seated or 70 standing, the room retains an intimate ambiance and a noise-reducing barrier blocks out the hustle and bustle of the regular dining room.
