I usually go here for my Chinese food, because they are one of the best places in Van. My last visit wasn't great, I ordered BBQ pork wonton noodle soup, which was good; And egg foo young, not great, it was dry and too salty. I'll probably go back, hopefully it was an off day for the cook.

Tonight, I ordered dinner from two restaurants: Ebisu Japanese Restaurant on Broadway and Kwong Chow Congee & Noodle House. I was surprised by the difference in experience. Both restaurants made errors in their orders. When I called Ebisu Japanese (on Broadway), I was initially offered defensiveness and an assistant manager who offered a credit for a salad (that in no... More

The portions of food were big. But despite great aesthetics, the food quality was not great as the reviews for this restaurant suggested. The foods that we ordered (tofu, szechuwan chicken, and chowmein) were so oily we decided to stop eating.. we felt literally over-dosed with portions of oils that took off our wonderful evening..I will think twice before visiting... this is as authentic as it can get ! the food is great and reasonably priced. it has the slightly dodgy feel to it that you want from this kind of food places. i would come at least once a week.

Came from Calgary to visit our son in Vancouver. From the posted reviews, this nearby restaurant from our hotel seems pretty good and so we decided to dine there. It was a busy night and we ordered the dishes from the menu. The food was terrible especially the spiced goose which had no resemblance to the picture shown in the... More

We stopped at Kwong Chow for a quick lunch on a weekday at around 12:30 PM. It was about 60% full, but no seating for 2 left. However, we were seated immediately as we were willing to share a table. We shared a bowl of century egg & pork congee along with Chinese donuts and a plate of chicken &... More

Have been going to Kwong Chow for many years. Great food with incredibly friendly staff. They always remember you, your favourite dishes and treat you like family. Make sure to try the spicy squid, chicken hot pot, chicken with ginger and green onion and scrambled egg with shrimp. Consistently good for dinner or late night eats. In a city with... More

My spouse and I went out for dinner after her dragon boat practice. The last time I reviewed this restaurant was about 34 months ago. We arrived at 7:15 and were promptly seated. Around this time the 90 plus seating capacity was more than 75% full. We ordered the following: • Singapore fried rice noodles ($10.00) • Assorted meat and... More

I came to Vancouver from Alberta wanting to experience the real deal in Chinese Food. I was delighted to be the only non Chinese person in this full restaurant. The reason it was full is because the food delivered .

This is an informal spot for congee, noodles and other comfort foods. My family comes here late at night when we need a bite because they're open til 2AM. Prices are cheap - many dishes are $10 or less. My personal favourite is congee with kidney & shrimp balls. All the congee is delicious though - hot, a good amount... More

Neighbourhood Profile
South Main
South Main, or SoMa, is a neighbourhood in upswing. Inhabited by young humanitarian professionals in converted lofts and studio apartments, what was once an industrial centre is now a wellspring of vintage and eco fashion shops, contemporary sawdust-floor galleries, craft beer joints, and basement acting studios. All set to an Art Deco background with a strong blue collar sensibility underpinning each new pop-up and foodie trend, SoMa is on the rise.
