We dropped in here for a couple of appies and a drink. We enjoyed the prawns and the scallops as they were both tasty but the portion was a little too small. The establishment is tiny and since they had a big reso we couldn't get a table (although the reso hadn't shown by the time we left). We sat... More

Our food was bland and presented in ways that did not offer color or flavor or a cooked look. The perogies stuffing was tasty but they were presented with a slab of sour cream and no carmelization on the perogies. Just boiled or something. The cauliflower was again bland and not tasty. Then came the fish tacos and the tacos... More

Excellent food (I had the house-cured salmon and the seared tuna salad on asparagus). Tasty cocktails. DJ on Saturday night.

Very little seasoning, use fresh ingredients and good quality. The only suggestion is to use some dressing on the tofu salad as its taste is quite plain.

Good food and well priced. Liked the music. Great service. High ceiling, black walls, chandeliers, bar, booths and tables. Downtown feel - nice menus with fun appies to share. Will definitely return. It has juice!

They say on their website that this place is in the heart of gastown that's a bit of a stretch but anyways quaint place. Lovely staff and great prices. The pork tacos were not great tasting though but for 7$ I'm not complaining. Loved my wine and the atmosphere. A little dodgy area outside but relatively safe.

Tried this restaurant through groupon and overall it was great, providing you get a seat outside. The smell was gross inside the old building. The food was non greasy and had a homemade touch. Unfortunately they were out of the ribs, but the burgers were good and potato salad excellent. Great value especially with the groupon

If you enjoy having your repast in premises that are in dire need of renovations then The Ascot is for you. Even the menu was terribly soiled and tattered. if what diners can see are in that much disrepair I wonder what the kitchen looks like!

If you're a visitor to Vancouver and you're overwhelmed by the high end eateries or countless sports bars, head to the Ascot for great food and a casual atmosphere. Located in one of Gastown's historic buildings, the Ascot combines British pub food with the healthy flair that is at the heart of Vancouver menus. The Ascot is not part of... More

Been walking past this place on my way home from the gym every second night since it opened and last night finally had occasion to go in. Met a friend there for drinks and appetizers. Arriving at 7:15 on a Thursday evening and already all tables that weren't reserved were already taken. Sat at the bar. For a place fashioned... More

Staying in Gastown

Neighbourhood Profile
A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's history a more lively presence here than anywhere else. Having been originally founded around a popular worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of Vancouver's best micro-breweries, creative cocktail joints, and corner bars can be found in this area. Classical charm suffuses its many vintage boutiques and the brick-built structures that an army of creative professionals call home.
